About me and my therapy practice
At Clarity Counselling you will be warmly welcomed by me, Claire Baker, an experienced, BACP-accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.
My therapeutic approach is underpinned by humanistic and existential theory and philosophy, which acknowledge the paradoxes and dilemmas of being human. It is a respectful and compassionate approach that aims to increase self-awareness and, in the process, unearth new perspectives and ideas about how to address the challenges you may be facing.
I hold a special interest in how we make sense of ourselves and our lives, particularly when things have not gone to plan, or when we're struggling with ambivalence, loss, fear, regret and/or uncertainty.
That said, you can use sessions to reflect on any aspects of yourself and your life. Whatever brings you to counselling, it is a personal process, there are no ‘rights or wrongs’.
I love to travel and spent some years living and working abroad. I see parallels between travel and therapy, in that both involve the courageous, often daunting process of stepping out of our comfort zone to explore new territory.
I take an inclusive, non-binary and non-pathologising approach to human diversity, including mental health (and it's intrinsic connection to our emotional and physical health), ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, sexuality, relationships.
Practice description
I offer daytime and evening sessions and can work with you short or long-term.
Sessions are 50 minutes, usually at the same time each week.
Sessions can be online, by telephone, or in-person (at accessible therapy rooms in Brighton, UK).
If you have any specific requirements or questions, please ask.
My first session
As psychotherapeutic counselling is a collaborative process, it is important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with. For this reason I offer a full 50 minute introductory session at a reduced rate of £40. This gives us an opportunity to meet, discuss what brings you to counselling, ask each other questions and see how we feel about working together. There is no obligation for you to commit to further sessions if you do not wish.
Types of therapy
Brief therapy, Existential, Gestalt, Humanistic, Integrative, Person centred, Phenomenological, Relational, Solution focused brief therapy
