About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor who believes in providing a warm, non-judgemental and secure environment in which a trusting relationship between client and therapist can be built. Together we will identify your needs and work towards finding positive solutions.
I attend regular supervision sessions in order that I adhere to good practice and I work to the Ethical code of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy)
I currently run my own private counselling practice from home and my client work has covered a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement, loss, relationship difficulties, low self esteem and developmental trauma. I have had previous experience of working with various agencies including working with carers, counselling in a college setting as well as working for a charity supporting those affected by sight loss
I have several years experience of teaching as a Lead counselling tutor in a college in Winchester and as a primary tutor on the degree course.
I have a foundation degree in Humanistic counselling based on Transactional Analysis and a Masters in TA Psychotherapy. I am also a Certified Transactional Analyst. I attend regular training workshops and courses as part of my continued professional development.
Individuals: Each counselling session is 50 minutes long at a cost of £60
Practice description
As a psychotherapist, my aim is to support you in understanding what might be the cause of the issues you are experiencing. For example, this may include exploring your core beliefs about yourself, others and the world and how these impact on your life in the present. The focus might then be on challenging these beliefs and updating them so you can lead a more fulfilling life. If you have experienced difficulties in the past or some kind of trauma, then we might explore how the effects of these experiences are impacting on you in the here and now and our aim may be to build your resilience and reduce the impact of trauma so that you can cope well and thrive in life
My first session
In our first session there will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and to get a feel for how I work as well as a chance for me to understand the issues you are experiencing and what you would like to gain from therapy. If we both decide we would like to work together we will then arrange further sessions which will initially include some assessment questions to gain insight into your circumstances and experiences, agreeing on what the focus of our work together might be and also time to talk so we can begin to build our relationship
