Originally from Liverpool from a working-class background, I, Julie (she/them) have 32 years of experience as a psychotherapist, supervisor & counselling tutor. Starting with an initial assessment, where I work from an anti oppressive stance. I want to understand how best to support you psychologically and not presume anything about you. With EMDR training, a Master's in Counselling & Postgraduate Cert in Gestalt Psychotherapy, I believe in the power of exploring both emotions, thoughts and bodily experiences equally in the 'here-and-now'. By raising awareness, people can click into change. I run therapy groups and work with individuals. Let's work together to explore what you want from your life.

I can help you by being totally curious about what is going on for you; whether it be what you are thinking , how you are feeling or what are you doing. I appreciate that you are an unique person and that everyone is different. I offer a non-judgmental approach where you can be you and have some time and space to talk through what is bringing you to therapy

We need to have an initial assessment (1hr) This is the perfect space to meet, to put all the cards on the table, to discuss how I can best support you psychologically. Plus for you to assess whether this is what you want to do and whether you want to work with me. Send me an email. I offer online, face-to-face at SE12, N1 or walk therapy in Greenwich.

About me and my therapy practice

As a Gestalt therapist, I'll be wanting to check in with:

  •  how you deal with yourself, for instance,
  • how you might talk to yourself e.g. your self critical thoughts.
  • How you feel as a human being in the world...
  • Whether there are issues/unfinished business from the past that are interfering with your here-and-now, day to day life.
  • We'll be looking at what support you have around you,
  • discussing your thoughts/feelings around relationships with the people you know.
  • Discussing difference/similarities too within your relationships.
  • The main theme is to work out how best to support you psychologically.

As I am also a trained EMDR therapist, this works for some people who have experienced recent or distant traumas in their lives. So the therapy is client led, that is...I follow you yet we will be discussing what is going on for you and what might be useful for you.

Aswell as being empathic and non-judgemental in the session, I'll be asking you things like; 'how do you feel, emotionally, physically, what you sense as well as asking you what you think. I feel that, it's really important to feel understood in a therapy session and to be seen.

Practice description

The practice is run by myself. I work in a studio at the bottom of my garden...away from everyday noises.  There are a couple of one steps in and then out.

I offer travel-and-talk sessions in the Greenwich area and I have a small practice in Angel for people who can't get down to SE London easily.

There is somewhere comfortable to sit, a glass of water, tissues, a nearby toilet and confidentiality.

I view myself as an ethical practitioner who is curious about the human condition and I love my job.

My first session

The first session, is usually a little bit longer, usually around an hour max .

This session is to really cover all the areas of your life that you'd like to talk about. It's like putting all the cards out on the table and being with another person, looking in and discussing your life.

Sometimes people end up talking about something totally different.

Sometimes people might cry, others feel relieved that they have finally spoken about something, everyone is different.

The first session, is for you to assess whether therapy is something that you want to do, and whether you want to do that with me.

I'm there to work out whether I'm the best person for you- so its like an act of trust, in a confidential setting together.
