About me and my therapy practice
Do you ever feel weird or like you just don't fit in?
I know what it is like to feel different or like you don't really fit. Maybe you've always felt this way or life has shifted recently and you're not quite sure how to move forward. The world often has clear expectations of how it expects us to be or interact and that can leave many of us feeling different or out of place. It can be easy to beat ourselves up or feel we 'should' be able to cope with the things other people seem able to. This can often leave us feeling less than or like we are just not good enough.
I want to provide space for you to feel fully heard and seen, to bring all your wonderful uniqueness, your imperfect self. Together we can explore and feel the times the world has felt hard and the ways you feel uncertain or that you fall short. We can also start to ask some questions. Who are you really? Who are you expected to be and is this really you? Can you live a life that is 'different' but still full of value? What would a valuable, true to you, life look like?
All sessions are online and can be in the format that feels most comfortable. You might purely want to talk, you might bring photos or images, art or dreams, journals or poems, whatever helps you show what you are feeling inside. I will never judge you, always want to see you and am here to let you know that you are more than enough, just as you are.
Practice description
I believe in the potential for counselling to change lives. I have experience of working with adults, children and young people who are struggling; with anxiety, depression, relationship and family problems, low self-esteem, bereavement and chronic illness among other challenges. I often work with clients who feel their brain works differently (whether they have a neuro-diversion diagnosis or not), people who are creative, in-depth thinkers or who are embarking on a new stage in their lives. I also offer sessions for students training to be counsellors.
I offer online sessions through a secure, HIPAA compliant platform at a time and frequency to suit you. Online sessions are great for helping us fit therapy into busy lives. All you need is a quiet space where you won't be overheard and a good internet connection. I offer a free 15 minute introductory video call so you can meet me and see if you feel comfortable working together. Finding a therapist that feels a good fit is important so there is never any pressure to continue if it doesn't feel right for you.
Finding a therapist can be a big step, that can feel daunting at times. I want you to know that over a quarter of people will have therapy at some point in their lives (BACP, 2014), therefore you're not alone. I want you to know that if you are ready to feel differently, then you can, however difficult things are feeling now. I have seen the power counselling has to change lives and I look forward to discussing how I can help you.
You can read more about me on my website: www.hrscounselling.co.uk and can contact me to arrange your free 15 minute video call: harriet@hrscounselling.co.uk.
I look forward to meeting you.
