About me and my therapy practice

I am a BACP Accredited Integrative Counsellor offering short term and long term therapy.  I welcome people from all different backgrounds and life experiences, and offer a supportive space where you can safely explore whatever is impacting you.

I believe that each person is unique, so how we choose to work together in therapy will be based on what is most useful to you. This could involve thinking about how your past might be impacting you in the present, and how to respond to that; it might look like having space to pause and reflect on your feelings in the safety of the therapeutic relationship; or it could involve using tools and developing skills to meet goals that you have for yourself. I use a range of ‘lenses’ through which we can explore what might be happening for you, to help us make meaning of your thoughts, feelings and experiences and to consider what your future could look like and how you could move towards this.

In our counselling work we may explore together at how aspects of your identity such as your age, gender, class, race, sexuality, religion and other characteristics have had an impact on who you are and you experiences in the world, where this feels relevant. I acknowledge the wider issues of power and oppression that may particularly impact marginalised groups, as well as celebrating the unique joys, meaning and resilience that can come from living with an identity that has been perceived or treated as ‘other’.

I have extensive experience of supporting people who identify as LGBTQI+, and people in a broad range of relationship types (e.g. polyamory, relationship anarchy, ethical non-monogamy, kink/BDSM) where these aspects of identity and living may or may not be the main focus of therapy.  However, everyone is welcome.

I can also provide support for wider issues including anxiety and depression, relationship issues, identity, life transitions, and I have training and experience around supporting people who are ADHD and/or autistic.

About me and my therapy practice

About Supervision

I offer online clinical supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists and other professionals working in support roles, in line with the BACP’s Ethical Framework.

As a supervisor I work in a pluralistic way, drawing upon humanistic, psychodynamic, narrative and cognitive approaches to collaboratively reflect on your client work with you. I seek to build a relationship in which you feel supported, and where you are able to openly explore and gain clarity and insight into your relationships to your work and with your clients.

I have a particular interest in 'working within diversity', exploring the ways in which our own identities and differences and that of our clients impacts what goes on in the therapeutic relationship, and how this might mirror the client's lived experience.  I also feel it is important to consider the wider social context of the client's challenges in terms of how we are making sense of their experience.

I work within a range of supervision models, such as the Queer seven-eyed model of supervision, Hawkins’ seven-eyed model of supervision, and Inskipp & Proctor’s supervision framework.  In practice, this means we might use supervision to explore the client’s process and the therapeutic relationship, your process as a practitioner, the wider context of the client and your therapeutic work, and our own relationship. I see supervision as a space to provide you with support, reflection and development as we explore the challenges of your work, as well as celebrating the flourishing that we witness in our client’s lives.

I primarily work with counsellors who support adult clients, or older young people (age 14+).

Experience & Training

I have experience of working as a supervisor supporting individual counsellors within both private practice and within organisations. I have also provided clinical supervision to groups of trainee and qualified counsellors, and other frontline staff including youth and sexual health workers within an organisational setting.

I have worked as the Counselling Services Manager for METRO Charity, an equality and diversity organisation, with a focus on running services for people who identify as LGBTQ+, people living with or affected by HIV, and family counselling. I have also provided consultancy for other organisations, with a focus on safeguarding and community wellbeing, and supporting people in crisis.

I have extensive experience supporting clients who identify as LGBTQ+, and those living with or affected by HIV.  I also support people who have a range of different relationship styles and further sexualities, such as polyamory or other types of ethical non-monogamy, and kink/BDSM.  I have interest, training and experience in supporting clients who identify as neurodivergent, particularly those who are autistic, ADHD or HSP.  I am particularly interested in the ways in which identities interact with the wider social, political and economic contexts in which they exist, and impact upon an individual's sense of self and quality of life.

I am a qualified and experienced secondary education teacher, with a background in teaching Philosophy.  I find it useful to draw upon an Existential perspective on human nature, which can help make sense of our client's challenges in being human, and how they might respond to these.

My first session

Over email or a short phone call we will make sure we are a good fit for supervision in terms of our mutual availability, modalities, experience and training.  In our first session, we can then talk in more detail about where you are in your work, what your needs are, and how we will work together in supervision.

Session fees are £60 per hour, £90 for 1.5 hours.
