About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Sonja.
I am a psychotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience working in both in and outpatient services. I treat all major mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, phobias, work/home related stresses, bereavement and addiction.
My specialisation and passion lie in the field of eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge eating disorder, compulsive eating), disordered eating and body dysmorphia. It is generally assumed that eating is natural but for someone struggling with disordered eating nothing could be further from the truth. In my experience, food is the symptom but not the cause. I aim to help you through the emotional maze that has led you to this point, so that you can develop a healthy relationship with food, your body. and yourself.
My approach
I work from an integrative humanistic perspective, which focuses on the ‘here and now’ experience of the person. The goal of counselling is to achieve greater self-awareness and encourage the client to take greater responsibility for their lives. These changes are facilitated within a therapeutic relationship which is non-judgemental and accepting of the client's world.
I work with adolescents, adults, couples and families
