About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor working with adults and older adults, including people with childhood trauma, depression, health problems, relationship difficulties, work-related issues and post-traumatic stress. My therapy work is founded on a person-centred, trauma-informed approach and I specialise in anxiety and relational traumas.
In recent years I have been training in and practising Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. ISTDP is an effective, emotions-focussed way of working with anxiety and depression and the negative effects of adverse life experiences on personal wellbeing: mental, emotional, physical and relational. The therapeutic task of focussing on emotions will often result in an increase in levels of anxiety, including unpleasant and uncomfortable physical effects. A significant aspect of this therapeutic approach, therefore, is to respond to this anxiety together, with care and precision and in ways that will help you learn how to attend to and manage your anxiety alongside the work of exploring your difficulties and working together to make sense of and improve your situation.
However we choose to work together – whether from an Integrative or ISTDP-focussed approach – we will combine your desire for positive change and my active stance in support of this to help you with whatever is creating difficulties in your life and affecting your wellbeing. The purpose of our combined efforts will be to help relieve your emotional distress and anxiety so that you are more able to reach the goals that you wish for yourself, your life and your relationships.
Practice description
I offer one-to-one therapy sessions online using Zoom and Teams platforms. Sessions are normally one hour (60 minutes) and usually take place to start with on a weekly basis at the same time and on the same day of the week - although there are options for longer sessions, including ‘block therapy’ which is typically 2-hours’ duration - with longer breaks between sessions.
My commitment to our counselling relationship includes providing a safe and non-judgmental, confidential space in which you can share your difficulties and your thoughts and feelings freely, and I will be an active advocate for your health and wellbeing for the duration of our work together. This commitment is supported with regular clinical supervision of my therapy work and continuous training by appropriately qualified and accredited professionals.
My usual way of working is to offer an initial, extended introductory session, followed by a mutually agreed minimum number of sessions. Details of our way of working together will be agreed in a Working Agreement, individualised for your situation. Short term, longer term, open-ended and time-limited options are all available.
All online therapy sessions are usually recorded, by mutual and informed consent. This is for the purposes of my clinical supervision and client safety. Recording is agreed within a Video Recording Consent Form, which includes restrictions on its use and longevity that protect client confidentiality.

My first session
My usual way of working is to offer a free 30-minute online or phone meet-up. This gives us both the opportunity to find out more about each other, including what is most troubling for you, and how we might initiate our first therapy session if we agree to begin working together. Fees and concessions are available for discussion.
If we agree to work together, I will send you a working agreement for consideration, and we will arrange a first online session. I usually advise an extended introductory session of up to 2 hours. This is to help us explore together in more detail the difficulties that you are experiencing, and the best ways of working therapeutically that would be most beneficial. This extended first session can be arranged as either a 2-hour appointment or two 60-minute sessions in close proximity.
If you would like more information about my therapy practice or would like to book a 30-minute conversation, please do contact me by text on 07951 784181 or email me at yrtherapies@outlook.com
If you would prefer to phone me and I am not available, please do leave a message and I will respond as soon as I’m able to.
