My practice is online. I work with couples and with small groups of adult family members - typically two siblings or a parent with an adult child.
About me and my therapy practice
I work with an attachment perspective, as I have done for twenty-five years. More recently I have been training in EFT (Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy) which means I work in a slightly more dynamic way. I'm aware that when couples come for help, often one of them is more unsure or anxious about the process, so I see it as a priority that I achieve an effective working alliance with both partners. Whether the work is focused on outbreaks of conflict, on a shared grief or on the repair needed after an affair, I aim:
- to understand the experience of each partner and convey that understanding with respect and compassion
- to help disentangle the process which has taken hold of the couple and which has perhaps drawn them into roles which they never intended and do not enjoy
- to enable clearer thinking, kinder communication and deeper connection
Couples may bring disagreements about money, sex or how they raise their children, but I do not set out to solve these. Rather, if a couple can be helped to a more secure relationship they will be able to think more clearly and to collaborate on whatever they are facing.
Practice description
If we decide to work together we would plan regular meetings, almost always weekly. It's better if both partner can be together for sessions, in the same location, (rather than logging in from different places).
My first session
A first session is 90 minutes (whereas subsequent sessions would be 50 minutes) - the price for the longer session is pro rata - so £250. The first meeting is a chance for all three of us to see if we feel ongoing sessions would be helpful. I would typically ask you more questions at the first meeting and of course you are very welcome to ask me any questions. I ask for payment of the first session in advance (subsequent sessions are invoiced at the end of each month).

I work online and no longer work with regular supervisees. I offer one-off or occasional consultations. If that would be useful to you, you are very welcome to get in touch.
About me and my therapy practice
I can be most useful when supervisees are looking to understand attachment in relationships - whether they work with couples or in individual therapy with the 'couple in mind'.
I also supervise supervision of supervision.
Practice description
As a consultant I hope to support a therapist’s work with specific clients as well as enabling their broader growth as a therapist. As with my own clinical work, I see the task in terms of attachment dynamics: we all learn best when we feel secure and able to be exploratory and curious, even playful. As a supervisor I aim to contain those elements which obstruct the learning process and I see my attunement to the supervisee’s experience as my key contribution.
Occasionally I hope to provide a significant insight into client work but for the most part I aim to facilitate supervisees to discover new layers of meaning. I know from experience that this is more likely to translate into a new experience in the therapy room.
My first session
I see a first meeting as a chance for us both to see how we fit.
