About me and my therapy practice

I am Louise and I have worked for over 30 years as a  Counsellor ,in a variety of settings.

I offer a warm, genuine and non-judgemental relationship where clients can safely talk through what is troubling them. I work collaboratively, aiming to understand  how it feels to be you right now .

I believe that people have the potential to move forwards in ways that are helpful to them ,given the right support acceptance and understanding.

People come to counselling for differing reasons. You may be troubled by memories, you may be grieving, Maybe you are in a difficult life situation. You may be holding views  about your self which are unhelpful and which are affecting your self esteem  and mood.

I hold postgraduate training in Psychodynamic Counselling and in Person Centred Counselling. This means that we can explore what is troubling you from a number of perspectives. I would describe myself as a Relational Counsellor. This means that I place high importance on the quality of the relationship between myself and my clients; creating an empathic, safe alliance.

It is a well researched fact that the quality of the relationship between Counsellor and Client is a central factor in helping people change and find ways of relating to them selves, which are more helpful.

Practice description

I work  face to face and on the 'phone in the Hebden Bridge area.I do not generally work on-line.

I am committed to working  transculturally. I aim to understand clients from within their own context, which will differ from mine. This relates to gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, culture and faith. It relates to neurodiversity and to learning differences and needs.

I have 30 years experience of working as a Counsellor. This includes working with trainees, both as a Counsellor and Supervisor.

Alongside my private practice, I have worked for several years in differing roles for a Women's charity.I have worked in schools with children with SEND and I have worked in the Community with adults who have different learning needs.

I have experience of working with students and I am on the Leeds Beckett Network. This means that I have been approved to  work with trainees as a counsellor.

My first session

I offer an initial half hour 'phone call at no charge and without obligation. This is to get a sense of whether we can work together and whether I am the right person to support you.

Availability

Hello,

I work weekdays, from 10. 00 a.m till 5.00 p.m. Meaning that I end work at 6.00 p.m.

I have  one or two available slots for Supervision at this time.

About me and my therapy practice

My name is Louise and I have worked for over 30 years as a Counsellor in Private Practice. I have also worked in different roles, both paid and voluntarily,as part of a Women's Charity.

I have postgraduate training in Psychodynamic Therapy and in Person Centred Therapy. Both of these models inform the way I work.

I have also undertaken initial training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and am intending to continue this.

I understand the Supervision Relationship as a place of mutual respect and trust. Supervision is there to provide support, to develop new skills and to ensure the quality of client work. These are known as restorative, formative and normative functions.

I see supervision as a collaborative endeavour between Supervisor and supervisee. We will work together to understand the supervisee/ client relationship in a wide systemic context. We will also examine our core beliefs and assumptions in relation to clients; in order to understand clients in new ways and from differing perspectives.

I have supervised both trainees and qualified practitioners for the last 6 years. The people I supervise work across a variety of settings, including Play Therapy, Primary Health Care, Voluntary Sector.

Supervision Training :

Essential Supervision Skills 2020, BPS Approved.

Group Analysis North Supervision Workshop Series 2020-2021.

Essential Supervision Skills Update 2023, BPS Approved

Supervision of Risk 2022.

This would include a wish to understand their Contract and their Safeguarding Policy.

I will assess whether the work in which you are engaged falls within my Competency.

I would discuss my own Contract and encourage you to ask about  any terms and conditions, which you are not clear about.
