About me and my therapy practice
About Me
I’m Julia and I live in Ashprington with my partner and our two cats. In my spare time, I like to potter about the garden and grow my own vegetables.
Psychotherapy is my passion and I feel privileged to meet every new client and journey with them. I have been inspired by some brilliant psychotherapists who have helped me.
Your combination of experiences and concerns are unique to you. What matters above all else in psychotherapy is our relationship. You are welcome to discuss any concerns you have which may include anxiety, stress, loneliness, depression, relationship issues, self-confidence, pressures of work, addiction and feelings of being lost or overwhelmed.
I have extensive experience working in the voluntary sector with MIND the mental health charity and in a drug and alcohol unit.
In addition to being a qualified and accredited psychotherapist and counsellor, I have extensive financial services sector experience as a consultant in EY/PwC, two of the ‘big 4’ accountancy firms. As a psychotherapist and consultant, I am in a unique position to understand and address the pressures that are experienced in corporate life.
Mental Health, Naturally
As a psychotherapist I reach out to help people in a safe, calm and confidential environment. I will be by your side journeying with you, sharing your view and taking a leap of faith into the unknown with you.
Here you can feel free, to be yourself. To be just as you are. To be understood without judgement. To see things in their true light. To see another perspective and be open to possibility.
Practice description
What is integrative counselling and psychotherapy?
Integrative counselling and psychotherapy weaves together approaches and tools from a range of therapeutic models, enabling therapy to be tailored to you and to the concerns you wish to explore. ‘Walk and talk’ therapy offers integrative counselling and psychotherapy in a nature-based environment.
What to expect?
‘You may feel that what you’re experiencing isn’t serious enough to get help or feel unsure about the kind of support that psychotherapy can offer. But anyone can benefit from becoming more aware of how they see the world and why.’ (UKCP)
Psychotherapy is about changing. It is designed to help you to be able to do, think and feel things differently.
- To help you recognise the patterns that hold you back and to create new options to change them. And once change happens in one area of life, this opens up possibilities in other areas.
- To let go of preoccupations and gain clarity of vision.
- To accept where you are and to move forward to where you want to be.
- To recognise happiness as it presents itself to you.
- To gain insight into yourself, and to be curious and inspired.
Psychoeducation has a role to play, to empower you to co-create ways of reducing distress by using imagination and creativity. We may collaborate on active practice across different contexts so that you can be self-empowered outside the therapy room.
Your Concerns
I am committed to helping you to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of yourself, to enable you to make the positive life changes you want and have greater skills at managing life’s challenges.
I can help you with a range of concerns including but not limited to anxiety, stress, loneliness, depression, relationship and family issues, self-confidence, pressures of work, addiction, bereavement and feelings of being lost or overwhelmed. Please contact me to discuss the concerns that you wish to bring to therapy.
My first session
Appointments
I will be meeting with you once per week, lasting 50 minutes either on-line or in-person, or 60 minutes in a nature-based environment.
There will be an initial free on-line assessment lasting around 20 minutes. This appointment gives you the opportunity to meet me, to decide if I am the right therapist for you, to ask any questions about my practice, for me to gather some information on you and for us to make an initial exploration of the concerns that you have.
If we decide to go ahead, we will arrange an initial set of appointments. We would review progress periodically.
I will ask you to agree to ‘Counselling Terms’ tailored to the type of therapy you wish to participate in. The contract sets out my confidentiality policy and other administrative points.
