About me and my therapy practice
You may feel confused by all the different descriptions practitioners use to describe how they work. Googling the words can help, but still sometimes it seems confusing. My approach can be described as integrative, humanistic and relational.
I have been a therapist for over 20 years (as an Acupuncturist and Nutritionist) and began my training as a Counsellor in 2010. I recently completed a Masters Degree in Mindfulness Based Psychotherapeutic Practice, at the Karuna Institute, where I have trained as a psychotherapist. All of these inform the way I work.
The threads that are central to my approach are mindfulness meditation, compassion and contemplative practices found in Buddhist psychology and Peter Levine's Somatic understanding of the affect of trauma and adverse experiences on the body/mind. I bring attention to the wholeness and inherent health of a person, listening deeply to the struggles and concerns that obstruct the ability to live a full and satisfying life.
Practice description
I am currently offering both online and face to face sessions. Face to face sessions can be outdoors or indoors subject to an individual risk assessment and Covid-secure guidelines.
You may wonder how long therapy will take. It depends on what you want to achieve. Short term work (which to me usually means 6 - 18 sessions) may be useful to focus on a specific issue. Longer term work enables us to work with more deep seated patterns and concerns that deeply affect your way of being.
Generally, the agreement is to come weekly, on the same day /time.
My first session
It is really important that you choose a practitioner whom you feel you can work with. Because of this, I always offer an initial session at no charge, where you can meet me, talk a little about yourself and your concerns. Together we can explore whether working with me is right for you. If you decide it isn't then I will point you in the direction of other practitioners or services that may be of help to you.
