About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel anxious, worried or depressed? Sometimes life can be hard, and it can be difficult to make sense of distressing thoughts and feelings and heal from painful life events. Sometimes we might find ourselves stuck, and unable to move forward in the way that we wish to. Often talking to family and friends may be difficult for a number of reasons. This is when it can be helpful to talk to a trained professional who is unbiased and separate from your life. I will provide a safe, confidential space for you, underpinned by a supportive and empathic therapeutic relationship where we can work together on your difficulties.
Practice description
As an integrative therapist I draw on a number of different approaches to best fit the individual needs of each person. These can include, CBT, ACT, compassion focused therapy, mindfulness, and trauma informed therapy. I have worked for 9 years in a variety of settings, including working with children, teens, and university students.
I offer both short and long-term work. Short term is usually 6 to 12 sessions, whereas long term work can be weekly or fortnightly for as long as you feel its needed. In short term work we begin by identifying your therapeutic goals before exploring ways to manage these difficulties and identifying new coping strategies. In longer term work, we can look at how gaining a deeper understanding of past experiences has the potential to positively transform how we think and feel in the here and now.
I offer online sessions which are £50 an hour. In person sessions are £60 an hour from Big Local in Whitley Bay.
(£10 for the room hire goes back to this charity venue)
My first session
It can be really difficult to reach out for help, particularly to someone you don't yet know or trust. With that in mind I can offer you a safe, non judgemental, confidential and neutral space in which you can talk about what is troubling you. As a person I'm warm and down to earth and will do everything I can to make you feel comfortable in this first step.
The first session is an initial consultation and is at the reduced rate of £30 for an hour.
Its also an opportunity for me to find out more information on what difficulties you are experiencing, and what you need from therapy. Whether you are considering short term or long term work, and if you have any goals you would like to work towards in therapy. We will cover the confidentiality, data protection, and I will outline the therapeutic contract.
Consultation can sound quite formal and I can assure you it won't be, its more an informal discussion and a chance for you to see if you could feel comfortable with me and if I could be the right fit for you.
