About me and my therapy practice
I’m Gemma Kelly. I specialise in Psychodynamic Child & Adolescent Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am registered with and accredited by the BACP. I am also accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) and also hold qualifications in Systemic Therapy (family work) and for undertaking Autism Assessments (ADOS-2). I currently work in CAMHS (NHS) alongside my private work and have experience of working in schools and inpatient units. I work on an individual basis with children and adolescents aged 5-18, offering long and short-term work and CBT. I am also able to work with families and parents using systemic therapy approach.
I work in a client led way. For younger children, work is done creatively through play/art as this is their main way of communicating.
I am trained in CBT, which can be used to treat different types of anxiety: Social, Separation, Generalised and OCD as well as Phobias (additional charge may apply for phobia work) and depression.
I am also trained to administer the ADOS-2 assessment for diagnosing Autism in children (including toddlers), adolescents and adults. This is done in conjunction with my colleague as per best practice and would consist of a screening, developmental history with parents, the ADOS-2 assessment with your child and a report following. The ADOS-2 is considered ‘gold standard’ within the NHS for diagnosis of Autism. There is a substantial cost to this assessment which is available on request.
I am registered with BUPA insurance.
For those that require Autism Assessments under insurance with BUPA this is possible but requires an initial assessment. Please be in touch for more details.
I am committed to safeguarding children, undertake regular supervision and have an enhanced DBS check.
I am based in Eton/Windsor. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
My first session
I understand it can be extremely worrying for a parent to see a child suffering with mental health difficulties and they can often feel helpless. Equally, adolescents seeking help for themselves can find it hard to take that first step; many worry that they will be judged for needing support. I offer a friendly, safe environment for children and adolescents to explore any issues that they may be experiencing; school, home, self-esteem, eating, self-harming, anxiety or depression for example.
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know one another. I will offer a thorough assessment in this session with both you and your child and following this individual sessions of 50 minutes would start. I am happy to provide a report following the assessment, which you can share with your child's school or GP. There is an additional charge for the assessment report.
Therapy is confidential but I offer regular reviews for parents to discuss progress. Any risks or safeguarding concerns are of course shared with parents straight away.
