I offer weekday daytime and early evening face to face appointments in Edinburgh Park (EH12) as well as online day and evening appointments,
About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced, accredited, psychodynamic counsellor. I have worked in the NHS as well as the charity and education sectors. Working in a psychodynamic way means my aim isn't just to help you to feel better but to empower you to make changes by understanding and making sense of your relationships, and being able to express feelings and emotions which may have been buried for a long time.
I also offer Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) which is a time-limited (16 week) therapy, accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and specifically designed for the treatment of depression and anxiety. DIT provides a safe place in which to explore and talk openly about your feelings, to identify patterns of relating to other people and to understand what may have contributed to you becoming depressed or anxious.
I have experience and specific training in working with issues around miscarriage, abortion, stillbirth and neonatal death, as well as infertility and loss or bereavement of any kind. I also work with issues around food and eating disorders, as well as D/deaf clients. I hold a Signature Level 3 certificate in British Sign Language.
Practice description
I offer face to face appointments in Edinburgh Park or online sessions via Zoom. My aim is to provide a safe non-judgemental space in which to explore your difficulties. I won't tell you what to do but I will listen and enable you to find your own answers. Part of this may involve working creatively using symbols, art or creative writing. I may ask you about your childhood and sometimes I may not say much but allow you time to reflect.
My first session
I offer a free 50-minute getting-to-know-you session without any obligation for you to commit to ongoing sessions, This session will take the form of an assessment session and will be an opportunity to us to see if we think we will work well together. During this appointment I will ask you about where you currently are emotionally and what has brought you to counselling. I will let you know whether I feel I can help. It's also an opportunity to ask me any questions you may have. I won't ask you to commit to ongoing sessions - unless you are ready to do so.

In addition, I have undertaken specific training in the area of infant loss, including stillbirth, miscarriage and abortion. The loss of a child and/or the inability to conceive is often misunderstood and these feelings of not being heard can make the pain of such losses even harder to bear. I have undergone specialist training in Eating Disorders and also have experience in working with D/deaf clients and those who have experienced hearing loss. I hold a Signature Level 3 Certificate in British Sign Language.
Life is tough for everyone, especially at the moment. Deciding to start counselling takes courage. Visit my website www.marionjaytherapy.uk for more details.
Practice description
Working online means that I am able to accept clients from throughout Scotland and the UK. I also see clients face-to-face in Edinburgh.
My first session
What can you expect your first session to be like? After greeting you, there will be time for us to start to get to know one another and to see if we are a good "fit". The relationship between therapist and client is the most important factor in ensuring therapy works, so it is important to choose the counsellor who is right for you.
I use the first session (which is free of charge) to assess where you currently are emotionally and to find out about what has brought you to counselling and whether I feel I can help. I won't ask you to commit to ongoing sessions straightway, unless you are ready to do so.
What I can help with

I offer weekday daytime and early evening face to face supervision to qualified and trainee practitioners, as well as daytime and evening online sessions.
About me and my therapy practice
I am a fully qualified Clinical Supervisor and hold a Level 6 Advance Certificate in Clinical Supervision including face to face, online and telephone working. I offer affordable supervision to both qualified and trainee practitioners,
My approach is relational and supportive. I see supervision as a colleague-to-colleague activity in which therapist and supervisor work together in the best interest of the client. If you work with clients online, then it is best practice to receive all or most of your supervision the same way.
I have trained specifically as an Online Supervisor, to take account of phenomena such the ‘Disinhibition Effect’ and the ‘Black Hole Effect’, which exist in the online world, but which are not encountered in face to face work. I am an experienced psychodynamic counsellor, registered with and accredited by the BACP. My background includes several years’ experience of working as a tutor, training counselling students.
I work psychodynamically within an integrative framework, using the 7-eyed model of supervision and I welcome supervisees of all modalities.
If you are looking for a new supervisor and are interested in seeing if we are a good fit, contact me today to book a free initial one-hour consultation.
