About me and my therapy practice

Thank you for reading my profile.  I'm Lesley and I'm a BACP accredited counsellor/ psychotherapist, offering short-term and long-term individual therapy to adults.  I also offer personal therapy to trainees (counsellors, psychotherapists and counselling psychologists).  I am currently working only by telephone or using video-calling software, such as Zoom.

It can seem daunting to seek counselling, but I truly believe it to be a positive experience and I see my role as a counsellor to facilitate that positive experience, by enabling my clients to implement the changes they seek and to restore or enhance their wellbeing.

I can offer a safe place for you to discuss and explore your issues confidentially and for us to work together as we build a strong, trusting relationship between us.  I draw on my training in and experience of different counselling models to work in the way which is most appropriate to you as an individual.   This may include: encouraging you to look at things from a different angle, considering coping mechanisms or developing an awareness and understanding of how your past experiences might link to the present.  The counselling process is a collaboration and does require a certain level of commitment to the work involved, on both sides.

I have been in private practice since 2008, seeing clients for anything from one session to weekly sessions for several years.  I have experience of working with a wide range of issues, gained in a variety of settings, including a hospice, the NHS, occupational health, student health and an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).  My particular interests lie in the areas of: bereavement and other losses; illness, including long-term health conditions and work-related issues such as redundancy and work-life balance.

In addition, I have been offering personal therapy for trainees entering the counselling professions from Level 4 to Doctorate level since 2014.   I aim to link theory to practice for trainees when appropriate.
