About me and my therapy practice
"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope."
(Martin Luther King Jr.)
Professionalism and hope are pivotal to the therapeutic work that I do. As a qualified integrative counsellor and a member and a registrant of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), I passionately believe in the transformative impact of good quality counselling. Together we can explore any of the concerns that you may be experiencing, to enable you to move towards a more fulfilling life.
With over 10 years of experience, I have developed meaningful therapeutic connections with my clients and successfully helped many adults and young people overcome and understand a wide range of difficulties, which include, but are not limited to: childhood trauma, self-harm, relationship difficulties and anxiety.
I work within an integrative approach, which is informed by psychodynamic and person-centred theories. My practice is flexible, collaborative and endeavours to meet the different needs of individuals. I utilise mindfulness, CBT and creative art techniques to meet the client’s needs when required. Respect for difference, diversity and a commitment to inclusivity is embedded in my practice.
My degree in psychology with early childhood studies provided me with a sound understanding of child development, attachment and trauma. This was very beneficial in my role supporting foster carers for the local authority; helping them develop a more trauma informed and therapeutic parenting style for looked after children. In addition to my private practice, I have worked as a counsellor within the NHS and within different educational settings. I have been involved in tutoring counselling students also.
As my experience has grown over the years, so too has my commitment to working within a social justice agenda. I support a variety of clients and I am keen to understand more about neurodivergence e.g. ADHD and ASC and to work with clients who identify as neurodiverse.
Practice description
I am highly committed to excellent professional standards and ethical practice. Within my clinical practice, I can offer you a safe, non-judgemental, nurturing, confidential space where I can help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Developing a meaningful therapeutic relationship is an integral part of the process. Built upon the foundations of hope, high professional standards and deeply ethical underpinnings, I have helped many clients to feel less distressed and less alone in a sometimes very lonely world.
Based at NCL Business Centre in Broadstairs, I offer one to one, face to face counselling to adults within my recently refurbished and comfortable therapy room. I also offer telephone counselling and online counselling to meet the needs of the client.
My therapy room is on the ground floor and is easily accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. There is a spacious and welcoming waiting area with comfortable seating on the ground floor and accessible toilets also located on the ground floor.
There is on-road parking very nearby and disabled parking for blue badge holders very close to my therapy room. NCL Business Centre, Northwood Road, is on the local bus route and is also approximately 15 minute walk from Broadstairs train station.
My first session
Choosing the right counsellor for you is a really important part of your process. Therefore, I offer a free 15-minute call to provide you with the opportunity to discuss any initial queries which you might have prior to booking counselling sessions. If you would like to arrange a free 15-minute telephone call, then please contact me.
If you decide to proceed with counselling, during our first initial face to face consultation session, I will carry out an informal assessment to ascertain your needs and your therapeutic objectives. I will ask you some questions e.g., contact information and some questions about your history to help inform the therapeutic work that we will do. This first session will also be an opportunity for you to ask me any questions you may have about the counselling and what to expect.
Please note: This initial consultation session usually takes approximately an hour (sometimes a little longer) and is charged at my usual fee of £60.00.
Subsequent counselling sessions will be 50 minutes long and are charged at the rate of £60.00 per session.
