About me and my therapy practice
I am registered as an Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor with the BACP, trained in a number of different therapeutic modalities. I work with adults, individually or as couples, adolescents, families and groups.
I also work with clients requiring coaching, taking a psychologically informed approach to issues around study, career and work-related matters. I have a background in business and have held board level positions.
I studied for an M.A. in Psychotherapy and Counselling and then continued to take an Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Counselling training to work with adults.
I have further Post Graduate Diplomas in Applied Systemic Theory working with families, and Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Wellbeing, focusing on supporting emotional resilience in children and young people. I have also trained in trauma therapy for PTSD, mindfulness and bereavement counselling and mentalization-based treatment for parent-infant work.
I have worked in private practice for over 25 years, supporting a wide range of clients including adult, couple relationships, adolescent, group and family therapy. I have provided study and career-workplace coaching and provide supervision to other therapists.
I have also worked at MIND, in the NHS in both primary and secondary schools and in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team providing therapy for parents who have children with complex disabilities.
I am also a USA qualified architect, with an M.A. in Architecture from Princeton University. I have lived in the USA, Spain and France. I was appointed to the board of directors of media group WPP and was responsible for a multi-disciplinary design team in offices based in London, Edinburgh, Bristol, and Kuala Lumpur.
Practice description
I am registered as an Integrative Psychotherapist and work with adult, couple relationships, adolescent, group and family therapy and career consulting.
Integrative psychotherapy works with the whole person taking into consideration the body, mind, thoughts, feelings, and behaviour together with your familial, social and cultural context. I work with several therapeutic modalities which I can discuss with you.
I will explore with you the broad range of influences throughout your lifespan to assist you in developing a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships to others and to society. There will be an exploration of both your internal and external world and the interaction between the two. There are a range of different therapeutic approaches which can be employed depending on the issues and age of the client.
Integrative psychotherapy places emphasis on the confidential relationship developed between the therapist and client, with both actively engaged in the exploration of difficulties the client may be facing, the focus and direction of the therapy and the evaluation of the outcomes. Therapy may be short or longer-term and the duration will be agreed with the client.
I maintain a non-judgemental, analytic, open-minded curiosity towards my clients, recognising that there are multiple truths and perspectives which are subjectively interpreted by each of us.
Through open and honest dialogue, you will be encouraged to develop the ability to take responsibility for yourself, in the way you think and reflect, your future direction in life, how life events change and shape you and how you choose to respond to life’s challenges.
My first session
Please make an initial contact with me by phone or e mail to arrange a first appointment. You are welcome to leave a message if you wish. I work either in person, via zoom or phone, depending on your preference.
I am available for face to face appointments in NW11 (Hampstead Garden Suburb) or in Mayfair and Marylebone.
Appointments are usually an hour long, but for a first appointment I suggest booking 90 minutes if this suits you. There is often a lot to discuss in the first meeting. We will agree the fee for this first session during our initial phone or e mail contact.
The first meeting gives me a chance to introduce myself to you and explain how I work. You are free to ask any questions or discuss any concerns you may have. This can be particularly helpful if you are new to psychotherapy or coaching, or wanting to understand which option would be best.
We will also consider location, in person or remotely and times that suit our availability. We will agree fees, payment options, cancellation requirements, health insurance (if applicable to you) and any other matters you wish to bring. A form will be completed with your preferred contact information and record any arrangements we have agreed on.
You will have plenty of time to tell me about yourself and why you are considering coming for psychotherapy or coaching. I aim to understand the nature of your difficulties and the best way to support you. We can then discuss the type and duration of therapy that might be best suited for you.
If you wish to begin working with me, I always suggesting trying a few sessions so that you can decide whether you feel at ease and comfortable with me, and want to continue in what is always a very personal and subjective experience.
