About me and my therapy practice

I am a fully qualified and senior accredited counsellor. I provide non-judgemental and confidential counselling support from a private practice in University Street, Belfast.

I aim to work with you to establish a trusting, therapeutic relationship so that you will feel supported to tell your story, explore difficult feelings, reflect on the choices you’ve made and find ways to make things better in your life.

Engaging in a period of counselling can help you better understand who you are and what you want from your life. It can also enable you to become more confident and assertive, develop better relationships, address past trauma, set realistic goals, gain a greater sense of direction and encourage a more fulfilled life.

I practice as an integrative therapist. My counselling modalities include person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic therapy, sensorimotor therapy and EMDR.

I have more than thirty years' experience working with a diverse range of people and groups within the voluntary and community sector including over ten years as a counselling supervisor with Childline/NSPCC, as a counsellor in a school and with local counselling agencies.

You can find out more information about me and my approach to therapy at www.southbelfastcounselling.com.

My first session

In our first session, I’ll ask you to give me some information about yourself including your family history, relationships in your life and what your day-to-day looks like. I'll also ask you to describe what has brought you to seek counselling at this time. I may also ask about your current health issues, any medication you might be taking and if you are supported by another healthcare practitioner.

You don’t need to bring anything or have a written agenda but if it helps you to write things down in case you forget something, then feel free to do so.

The first session should allow you to get a feel for the process of counselling and help you determine if counselling is for you.
