About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced individual and couple counsellor and my specialism is relationships. I will work with you as an individual and my appraoch is always guided by your personality, life experiences and reasons for seeking therapy.

People embark on a theraputic journey for many reasons and in the first instance my primary objective is to listen attentively to your story, what has brought you to see me and to provide a calm and reflective space where together we can explore what is troubling you.

Once I get to know you better, but only if it resonates with you and your personality I can help you tap into your intuition, innate body wisdom and creativity with the aid of breath work, the bodily 'felt sense', visualisations and exploration of dreams. These ways of working also help us access our more unconscious beliefs about how we or the world operate.

Making the decision to seek professional help can feel daunting, but ultimately, I believe it is a courageous act.  We all experience times when we feel afraid, anxious and vulnerable. Low self esteem, intense feelings of anger, shame, guilt and struggles with addictive substances or behaviours should not be things we have to manage alone.  Change and loss are inevitable and part of the human condition, but so is joy and having the courage to work 'with yourself' and embrace a new beginning or life stage.

Following are some difficulties/concerns and challenges I work with and regularly see in my practice: -

Relationships: Co-dependency, difficulties with intimacy, affairs, divorce, separations.

Addictions and eating disorders.

Anxiety, panic attacks, depression, postpartum depression, anger, shame.

Life stages and transitions: mother/fatherhood, menopause, retirement, ageing.

Loss: Illness, bereavement, abortions and miscarriages. Job losses.

Work related stress/burn-out, bullying, racism.

Identity issues, sexuality, diversity.

Practice description

I am experienced in working with relationship difficulties, couple dynamics, grief, depression, addictions, anxiety related disorders, eating disorders and work related stress. I am also a nutritionist and yoga nidra (deep relaxation) teacher so can help support you practically with any physical or mental health related anxieties or symptoms you may be experiencing.

In working collaboratively together I hope to be able to give you a different perspective on what is troubling you.  I can help you to look at yourself and your dilemmas from different angles which can feel both a relief and very liberating.

In addition I hope therapy with me will yield the following benefits: -

The space and time to hear yourself speak and discover or affirm what is most important to you, what your values are and how you most want to live.

Greater insight into your family of origin and how unresolved trauma may be connected to feelings of overwhelm, anger and depression and/or affecting your ability to give or receive love and intimacy in a healthy adult relationship.

Increased compassion for your whole-self and what makes you unique.

An awareness of self-limiting beliefs that may be holding you back from achieving your goals or finding fulfilment in your professional or private life.

A sense of empowerment and increased self-esteem as you integrate parts of yourself you forgot you had or had projected onto someone else.

The opportunity to explore your inner world and the parts of yourself you are less conscious of, often initiating a desire to change, grow and experience a greater sense of freedom and peacefulness within.

There are no quick fixes in therapy, but I do believe that the examined life is richer and much more interesting, especially if we have the courage and commitment to confront what frightens or limits us and embrace a new narrative to live by.

My first session

Before we agree to meet for an initial assessment session I offer a free 20-30 minute telephone or zoom call so that we can both get a sense of each other, you can ask me any questions you might have and I can find out if I am the right person to support you.

If we decide to meet for an initial assessment session this is 60  minutes and subsequent sessions are 50 minutes and can be in person or online.

My couple sessions are 75 minutes and again I offer a free telephone or zoom call with both parties before we agree to begin working together.  I also have a couple assessment form which I need each couple to complete before the first session is arranged.

About me and my therapy practice

I have completed the first part (certificate in Supervision) of a UKCP accredited Supervision Diploma at Re-Vision - a Transpersonal Psychotherapy and Counselling centre in London.

I recently re-located to Brighton & Hove and am currently looking for supervisees who want to work from a transpersonal/integrative perspective.  As a therapist I am accredited with both the UKCP and BACP and have been in private practice for over 8 years working with a wide variety of individuals and couples as I am also a qualified couples therapist.   I have also trained as a masseur, Nutritionist and Yoga Nidra teacher so I have a keen interest in mind/body medicine, movement, breath work, and other intuitive/creative approaches to healing.

I am able to offer low cost supervision for £40 whilst I complete my supervision training.

Practice description

My aim is to work collaboratively, sensitively and creatively with you as a therapist/supervisee in service of you, your clients and the therapeutic work.  My approach is supportive and educative and I hope to provide you with a resilient as well as restorative place where we can both think and feel together about your clients, the impact they may be having on you and how to best move forward in terms of interventions and holding.
