About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome.
I see being a counsellor as a way of accompanying people as they travel through their inner landscapes, so my intention is to offer a down-to-earth and friendly approach but also be compassionately challenging if requested.
Having had to personally navigate some tricky landscapes myself, and having been extremely lucky to have found great counsellors, I feel utterly convinced by just how much good counselling can really make a difference.
All my life, I have been interested and touched by the reasons we do the things we do; and currently, I feel deeply moved by the process of working alongside people who are seeking greater clarity or peace of mind, or actually searching for the route to be free to realise their true potential.
Qualifications:
I have an advanced Diploma in Humanistic Therapy, a diploma in CBT and I hold certificates in Trauma, Dissociation and Recovery, Art Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy and Sexual Abuse Awareness.
Practice description
I offer a warm and friendly welcome and want you to feel as safe and comfortable as possible.
My work is rooted in compassionate, attentive listening, but having trained as a humanistic, integrative counsellor, it incorporates elements of Parts Work, CBT, Inner Child Work and the optional use of clay, drawing/painting and Sand Tray as a springboard for self-enquiry and growth.
Also, some clients find using simple grounding and Mindfulness exercises can be very beneficial.
In an environment where you feel heard, valued and respected, my intention is to help you to explore true thoughts and feelings and support you in seeking your own solutions:
- in the present, to get a sense of what is happening for you right now, with the potential option of
- also working with more hidden issues to examine patterns and unresolved, past conflicts.
However, we always work with whatever you bring to each session - i.e. it is always you in the driving seat.
Whatever pace or depth you feel comfortable with, you will be treated with compassion and sensitivity.
My first session
I realise that it's often difficult to make the first step to start counselling and it can seem challenging to find the right counsellor which is why I offer a free 15 minute, no obligation-to-continue, initial call via phone, Zoom or Skype.
This is not an actual counselling session but it's to give you the opportunity to:
- share some background information
- briefly outline what's troubling you
- discuss your hopes and expectations of counselling
- and ask any questions about me and how I work.
You can also get an idea of how I work as a therapist to get a sense of whether I might be the right counsellor for you and to see if we feel comfortable working together.
