About me and my therapy practice
Hi my name is Ulrike and I'm happy to say that I have had the pleasure of helping a great number of people throughout my career to move through their lives into better places and come out the stronger for it.
My base training is in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy.
I since trained in SE (Somatic Experiencing) Trauma Informed work expanding my scope of practice and dovetailed with my creative work as an Arts Psychotherapist.
Practice description
In Arts Psychotherapy the combination of talking and creative work allows for a unique, non threatening and yet effective way to explore life issues. No artistic skill is needed to work with images. It can be surprisingly rewarding, and allows the expression of feelings which may be difficult to put into words. Insights which otherwise would remain hidden from awareness can become known and processed
Trauma may come in many different forms and develop for a variety of reasons. My interest in SE (Somatic Experiencing) grew out of years of observation and recognition that our bodies are often seeking to tell their side of our story. To decode this can feel baffling or even impossible. SE allows for this process to be less of a mystery and more of a balanced and at times even poetic process when the appropriate safety has been established.
SE (Somatic Experiencing) combines the latest neuroscience with the long standing traditions of embodied psychotherapy. It has been born out of the long standing work of Peter Levine, Steven Porgess, Bessel VanDer Kolk and others.
If you are suffering from the aftereffects of an incident trauma, developmental trauma, surviving abuse, medical trauma or prolonged stress or PTSD - Somatic Experiencing supports a bottom up approach of healing which works on a resiliency model rather than a strictly speaking trauma model. By building resiliency it promotes thriving not just surviving.
Over my adult career I have worked in Germany, USA, Austria, Italy, Ireland, UK and am used to working in a mix of cultural perspectives and understanding. My cultural horizon continues to expand with each new person I get to meet and support.
My first session
I currently am able to offer online sessions only. Since 2020 when the world as we knew it changed, I too adapted my scope of practice to become competent to offer online work. Since then it has become my main platform. In the foreseeable future that is set to change again to accommodate both face to face and online.
Online working has been surprisingly effective for some busier people it has actually meant they could access regular therapy from what ever location they may be at from week to week provided a private space with good internet was available.
This includes the growing community of digital nomads in our modern world.
I find an initial introduction session to be helpful to explore what type of support you might need and how this can be best met.
Evening sessions are available to accommodate people with long working hours.
