About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist and a registered member of BACP working from a practice in West Sussex.
I work in a way that respects your individuality and explores the world from your perspective and experience. The aim is to deepen your awareness of yourself and to ensure that the life you are living truly reflects who you want to be.
I offer you a safe and confidential space to talk about what has happened to you before, what is going on now and and what you want from the future.
I have specialist experience in working with bereavement, addiction and post natal depression. I also work with a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, identity crisis, struggles with loss, problems in relationships , self harm, and feelings of stress or low self esteem.
My approach is relational: we work together to see what emerges. I am informed by the psychodynamic, humanistic, existential and integrative schools of therapy. These explore both the effect of the past and how we are able to relate to others today. I work with what you choose to bring, and take an open, warm and non-judgmental approach to your concerns. I then find ways to share back with you what I observe you saying and feeling. We can then wonder together what are the causes of - and ways through - any struggles you are experiencing. Hopefully this process brings you greater understanding of your personal dynamics and enables you to make the choices and take the actions you desire.
The opportunity to say aloud the concerns you have held inside may provide deep relief. Many people find that the experience of being truly listened to is deeply supportive. I do not give you "advice" but I employ my training, skills and experience to help you stay focussed on what concerns you. From this developing therapeutic relationship, courage and clarity can emerge.
Practice description
I am now working solely through remote channels such as Zoom, Skype or FaceTime. However, I am still able to create a warm, therapeutic space through the screen, and hopefully provide you with the support you need, whether this be for short or long term work together.
My first session
My first session is free. This gives us both an opportunity to feel what it is like to talk to each other. You can assess whether I seem to hear your concerns accurately and empathically, and I can work out if I am the best placed therapist to help you. As we talk, I will try to gather a "snapshot" of what troubles you, what it was like growing up, important people in your life, and any events or relationships which are particularly impacting you. I do this in the context of a warm discussion rather than an interrogation!
