About me and my therapy practice

With 19 years experience, I offer a private, safe, calm, supportive environment to help you work through whatever is troubling you. Counselling gives you the time and space to explore aspects of your life that don’t feel right. Whether it’s depression, anxiety, loss of direction, relationships or continuous negative views about yourself. These are to name but a few of the issues I’ve worked with.

With all the experience I have gained, I know that clients need to feel that their counsellor is someone who they can easily talk to. Someone who is caring and understanding and who has the skills and experience to help them make positive changes. It’s so important for you to feel valued and understood. One of my priorities is to create an environment where you will feel able to talk at a pace that is comfortable for you.

Counselling is my passion and I have witnessed how powerful it can be. If I was asked why I believed counselling is so beneficial I would say :

‘The one thing that I have learnt, throughout all my years as a therapist, is that once a client feels deeply listened to in a caring, compassionate way, and that their thoughts and feelings are really validated and understood - that is when positive change happens.’

Practice description

I am passionate about therapy and trained in various schools of therapy, which means that I can adapt to a style of working that is more suited and comfortable for you. Working with clients in this way is very beneficial because all clients are individuals with their own needs. As all clients are unique, I will adapt to you, not expect you to adapt to me. You see, some clients like to talk, whilst others find talking more difficult. So one form of therapy might be good for someone but not as effective for somebody else. Therefore I always work intuitively at a pace along side my client and adapt my style of working as we progress. It’s a very fluid way of working and has been very effective for many of my clients.

My first session

For those clients who are able to visit my practice it is a very private, comfortable space. For those driving there is off street parking right outside.

Firstly I offer a free 15 min telephone consultation. This will enable us to get a sense of each other and whether we feel we can work together.

After this we can meet for our first session. The first session includes an assessment and I will go through our counselling contract together. It will also give you the opportunity to give me an outline of what is going on for you and what you’re hoping for from the counselling sessions.

Sessions last for 50mins. Usually the same day/time every week. It is impossible to say how many sessions you will need as everyone is different. But there will be ample opportunity for us to discuss how your sessions are going.

About me and my therapy practice

I have been a therapist for nearly 20years and often when I’m working with clients, what normally starts to unfold is how negatively they can view themselves :

‘Why do I say yes, when I want to say no?’

‘Why do I attract the wrong kind of people into my life’

‘Why am I acting like someone I’m not?’

‘I know I’m capable of much more, but something inside me says I’m not good enough’

‘I don’t even like myself anymore’

‘I don’t even know who I am anymore’

These are just a few examples. Oftentimes clients can start to have these negative beliefs about themselves because of what they have experienced in life and because of certain life events they have gone through. Also, people are often shaped and moulded by significant people in their lives, which is not always beneficial.

We can start to move away from who we truly are, into a person we don’t even recognise anymore. You may feel lost and alone and sometimes a sense of hopelessness can often creep in. This can then cause anxiety and depression.

But a more authentic version of yourself is always deep inside you. This can be buried because of what you have experienced. This is the part that needs to be uncovered. This is my specialism. I skilfully work with both sides. The negative ‘conditioned’ side and the side that intuitively feels more ‘real’ and authentic to you. These two sides can be very conflicting because the negative beliefs about yourself can clash with your authentic self. It can feel like a psychological ‘ tug of war’ inside your head. This can be exhausting, frustrating and sometimes relentless.

It is usually at this point that clients seek therapy. When they feel they can’t get out of their heads and need help. You see, having these constant negative thoughts can become stronger and louder if allowed to. Sharing these negative thoughts with an experienced therapist can help you make sense of the constant battle in your head and help break this vicious cycle of negativity. You don’t have to be alone with it all.

Practice description

Having a deep understanding of this inner conflict you may have, enables me to work effectively with you. I understand that even though you are most likely very aware of how damaging these negative beliefs towards yourself are, they are not easy to stop or control. There can be many reasons for this. For instance, you may feel that staying the way you are feels easier and safer, like the ‘devil you know’. Or maybe you feel you deserve to think this way about yourself - like it’s some kind of penance. Again, just a few examples.

Sometimes this inner conflict is obvious to clients but sometimes it is not. There just seems to be a feeling of unease within. Like you feel lost, out of sorts, out of balance, or ‘up against it’ all the time. Perhaps these negative beliefs are so dominant in your life right now and you can’t find a way to release yourself from them - you can’t see the good in life anymore. Perhaps nothing in life excites you. We can work to uncover why you feel the way you do in our sessions together. We can work towards make sense of it all.

I will work with you to uncover what it is you want out of life, in a warm, non judgmental, understanding , safe environment. Together we will work towards unraveling these negative feelings and beliefs. I use several therapeutic methods so I can adapt and tailor the way I work to suite you. It is extremely important for you to feel in control and I will always work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I know it can sometimes feel very scary reaching out for help but I’m guessing that as you are taking your time to read this, you know something has to change to enable you to live a happier life. So it is important for you to find the right therapist. You need to feel comfortable working with your therapist. You need to feel you can easily talk to them. Because for effective therapy you need to have a good, strong therapeutic relationship. This is so fundamental for successful therapy.

My first session

If you can relate to any of the above please feel free to email or text me. After that I can arrange for a free, (no obligation), telephone consultation. We can have a chat about what is going on for you. If you feel I’m easy to talk to and if I feel I can help,  I can then arrange for us to meet. This can either be at my practice or ONLINE.

In our first session together we will go through a brief outline of what has brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping to gain from it. It also gives you the chance to go through anything you need to ask me. You may not know what to expect from therapy, so we can through it all.

I value and respect the uniqueness of all clients and their inner potential. Witnessing clients turn their lives around is so inspiring. Being able to accompany clients on their journey, is such a privilege for me personally. To see clients who first come to see me feeling lost with low self esteem, to then see them more confident, and more knowing of what they really want out of life is truly amazing. It’s why I do what I do.

Whether you choose to contact me or not, I wish you well and hope you get the help that you need. Never give up on your potential for happiness. Life is too short. And whether you believe this or not right now, you really do deserve to be happy.

Thankyou for stopping by and taking the time to look at my profile.

Warm Wishes

Tracey.
