I can also offer you Walk and Talk therapy . This form of therapy is very popular with clients of all agesWalks take place by the River Wey in Godalming, away from crowded areas and roads against a scenic background. See separate Godalming Area profile for more details on Walk and Talk.

I always offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to discuss working together and to address any questions you may have. My sessions are once a week and usually 50 minutes duration. This is the same for both face to face and online sessions.

I can offer you the flexibility of sessions early in the morning, during the evening and at weekends, in addition to normal weekday session times. With young people I try to accommodate their study timetables when booking sessions.

About me and my therapy practice

With 27 years experience as a BACP Senior Accredited therapist I work with adults and specialise in counselling young people. I offer you confidential support with issues such as Various Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Family, Stress, Relationships and Bereavement. Walk and Talk, phone and online sessions available at flexible times.

I work remotely (phone and online) with Students at University all over the UK.

For my Walk and Talk therapy please see my separate Godalming Area profile for details.

I am registered with BUPA and other medical insurers. My accreditation by BACP has been continuous since 2003. I am a BACP Senior Accredited practitioner.

My expertise in working therapeutically with young people aged  12-19 years as well as University students is informed by many years experience as a therapist in sixth form colleges and universities . I have attended many training events specific to young people. Flexible sessions offered to fit academic commitments.

Whether you are an adult or young person I offer further specialisms in Generalised Anxiety Disorder, OCD, Exam Stress, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety, Low Self Esteem and Self Harm.

I provide counselling for trainee counsellors on Diploma, Degree, Masters or PhD level courses (I offer sessions to fit both your academic and personal needs).

Other issues I can help you with include Separation/Divorce, Postnatal Depression and Anger. See section below for a definitive list of issues.

The reason you are seeking counselling may not be in relation to any specific issue. You may want a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings and thoughts or seek to grow as a person. It is my wish that our counselling sessions together can help you understand yourself better and provide greater insight and awareness of your presenting issues and life experience.

Practice description

A Short Introduction To how I Work Theoretically as an Integrative Therapist

When working with you I integrate Person Centred and Cognitive approaches. It is important to me that you have the autonomy to choose the issues and concerns you wish to focus upon and the pace you wish to work at. I work alongside you in a therapeutic relationship built around equality and trust. I am open and honest in relation to all aspects of my client work.

I offer a safe, confidential environment, free from judgement, where I seek to communicate my understanding of your concerns in a deeply empathic way.

As research consistently suggests, the quality of the relationship is the most significant factor for clients reflecting upon how counselling helped them.

I also integrate aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to enhance our work. I introduce (where appropriate) some basic neuroscience and psycho-education to enable clients to more fully understand what contributes to Anxiety, Depression and Stress. I will also ( again if appropriate) introduce clients to certain self-help models to aid the development of coping strategies and build resilience.

Exam Stress

I have extensive experience of working effectively with young people coping with exam stress and anxiety. I use an established CBT model to improve a young person’s ability to successfully prepare for and sit their exams. My work with exam stress has been with A level and GCSE students in addition to undergraduates.

Supervision

Since 2009 I have been a qualified Supervisor of both experienced and trainee counsellors (see supervision profile).

My first session

As mentioned above prior to our first session i offer a free twenty minute introductory phone call.

Our first session together is very important in relation to establishing how we both wish to contract and set the boundaries for our working therapeutic relationship. It is a time for you to share with me what your expectations are in relation to me as your counsellor and the counselling process in general.

This will most likely be the first time we have met or spoken with each other so I give time for us to introduce ourselves. The strictest confidentiality is of utmost importance i explain with honesty any limits to confidentiality which all counsellors have to abide to. Essentially the confidentiality I offer is similar to that offered by your doctor.

In this first session we also look at what you would like to achieve in our relationship and what issues have brought you to counselling. This session is also a time for you to ask me any questions in relation to how I work, the therapeutic model I use, and to finalise payment details.
