Practice description

Intimate Partners Therapy (IPT)

Are you seeking to strengthen your relationship, overcome challenges, or navigate life transitions with your partner? IPT offers a supportive and respectful space for couples to connect, grow, and thrive together.

In IPT, I create an environment where you and your partner(s) can openly express thoughts and feelings. As a neutral third party, my role is to ensure both voices are heard, fostering open communication and deeper connection. Together, we’ll explore relationship dynamics, identify strengths, and address patterns or behaviors causing distress.

How IPT Can Help:

Reconnecting Through Understanding: We’ll highlight the positive aspects of your relationship while addressing behaviors needing change. Guided conversations foster empathy, trust, and mutual understanding.

Managing Stress Together: Life events like health issues, financial decisions, or the arrival of a new family member can strain relationships. I’ll help you develop strategies to manage these pressures and build resilience as a couple.

Navigating Transitions: Whether adjusting to changes or exploring new paths, IPT provides a safe space for honest conversations and mutual growth during major life transitions.

Bridging Cultural and Language Barriers: For couples navigating cultural differences or where one speaks Portuguese and the other English, I offer bilingual support to bridge communication gaps and strengthen connection.

Support Through Separation: If parting ways is the best path forward, I’ll help you navigate the emotional and practical challenges of separation or divorce with kindness and respect.

Whether you’re looking to strengthen your bond, adapt to new circumstances, or part ways amicably, IPT provides tools and support for meaningful change.

Take the first step toward a healthier relationship - book your session today, and let’s build a fulfilling future for you and your partner.

My first session

Your First Session:

Starting IPT can feel daunting, especially if it’s your first time. Many couples wonder if the therapist will take sides (rest assured, I won’t) or worry about what they might need to share. These concerns are natural, but most couples find that approaching the session with an open mind and a willingness to work together leads to meaningful progress - even after just a few sessions.

In your first session, we’ll establish the ground rules and boundaries for therapy. This includes discussing the direction of our work together and giving you and your partner(s) the opportunity to ask questions or raise concerns. We’ll cover important formalities such as confidentiality, ethics, cancellation agreements and a brief overview of my training and experience.

The session will also involve a therapeutic assessment, which typically takes 1–3 sessions of 50 minutes. This process allows us to better understand your relationship dynamics and set the foundation for effective therapy.

Preparing for Your First Session

Complete the Agreement: Ensure both partners sign and return the IPT therapeutic agreement via both personal email addresses before the first session.

Online Sessions: Follow the guidelines on the ‘Online and Telephone Therapy Leaflet’ such that both partners should be in the same room using the same device, positioned so I can see you both clearly.

Respectful Communication: Violence or violent language toward a partner is strictly prohibited in sessions.

Reflect on Key Questions:

  • What issues are you currently experiencing in your relationship?
  • How long have these issues been present?
  • Have you sought relationship counselling before?
  • What steps have you and your partner already taken to address these challenges?
  • What are your hopes and expectations for therapy?

Your first session is an opportunity to lay the groundwork for positive change. Let’s work together to strengthen your relationship and address the challenges you’re facing. Take the first step today!

Practice description

Gender, Sexuality & Relationship Diversity (GSRD) Therapy

As a more inclusive approach than the LGBTQIA+ acronym, GSRD therapy embraces a wide spectrum of identities and relationships, including BDSM/Kink, polyamory, swinging, consensual non-monogamy, sex work, non-binary, gender non-conforming experiences, and supporting gay men. It also welcomes those who feel excluded from traditional LGBTQ+ discussions.

If you're seeking a therapist who understands and values the GSRD communities, I bring both specialized training and lived experience to my practice. I’ve trained with Pink Therapy on GSRD topics and with Gendered Intelligence (GI) on supporting trans and non-binary clients. My professional background includes working in LGBTQ+ mental health organizations and campaigning to ban Conversion Therapy in the UK.

I prioritize creating a safe, affirming, and client-led environment where gender, sexuality, and relationship dynamics can be explored at your own pace. Whether you're addressing specific GSRD-related concerns or simply seeking a therapist who "gets where you’re coming from," I’m here to support you.

Areas of Expertise:

  • Supporting transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, and gender-questioning individuals, whether exploring identity, transitioning, or navigating other challenges.
  • Providing affirmative therapy for gay men, bisexual, and lesbian individuals, addressing issues unique to their experiences and supporting personal growth.
  • BDSM/Kink-aware therapy: Recognizing these practices as healthy expressions of identity, differentiating them from abuse, and addressing any related therapeutic concerns.
  • I offer a non-judgmental, supportive space for sex workers to explore their experiences, address challenges, and work on personal growth in a safe, affirming environment.

I respect and celebrate the diversity within GSRD communities. Whatever your identity or relationship style, I’ll work with you to explore and affirm your unique experiences.

My pronouns: He/Him.

Practice description

Services

Psychodynamic therapy will explore how your early childhood experiences and relationships shaped your present relationships by creating repeated patterns of behaviour. Becoming aware of these patterns and how they impact how you see the world and your position in it, will help you to change this perception in a way that assists you better.

CBT is based on the idea that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. It can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.

Gender Sexuality & Relationship Diversities (GSRD) Therapy is a more inclusive term to replace the acronym LGBTQIA+. It includes kink, non-monogamy, sex workers, non-binary and other gender non-conforming people, as well as those who feel generally excluded in discussions of LGBTQIA+ issues.

Online/Telephone Therapy is conducted via the Internet or telephone. Some people may prefer to use video conferencing and some may prefer to use just audio.

Individual Therapy - I will support you with the personal challenges that life and the world bring to you. I'll support you with any emotional concerns you may be experiencing that are contributing to you feeling unfulfilled in your life.

Intimate Partners Therapy (IPT) will help you and your partner(s) to open up and highlight the strengths in your relationship alongside what might be causing you distress. As the neutral third party, my role within IPT is to guide and facilitate the process of helping you and your partner(s) gain a better understanding of each other and your relationship.

Psychosexual and Sex Therapy will support you with your intimate life and relationship challenges, emotional concerns you may be experiencing that are contributing to the sexual problem, and customised interventions and techniques to get you back on the journey of reclaiming or establishing a newfound sexual fulfilment.

GSRD Therapy is an affirmative therapy that uses a more inclusive therapy term to replace the acronym LGBTQIA+ (kink, non-monogamy, sex workers, non-binary & other gender non-conforming people, etc.)

Online/Telephone Therapy is conducted via the Internet or telephone.

Individual Therapy - I will support you with the personal challenges that life and the world bring to you and any emotional concerns you may be experiencing that are contributing to you feeling unfulfilled in your life.

Intimate Partner Therapy (IPT) will help you and your partner(s) to open up and highlight the strengths in your relationship alongside what might be causing you distress. As the neutral third party, my role within IPT is to guide and facilitate the process of helping you and your partner(s) gain a better understanding of each other and your relationship.

Psychosexual/Sex Therapy will support you with your intimate life and relationship challenges, emotional concerns you may be experiencing that are contributing to the sexual problem, and customised interventions and techniques to get you back on the journey of reclaiming or establishing sexual fulfilment.

My first session

The first two or three sessions will be a psychodynamic assessment. Each session is 50 minutes.

While exploring the patient's current problems, past treatment, early development and social relationships, the interviewer also assesses mental status both indirectly and, when necessary, by asking direct questions.

After the initial assessment, we decide which therapeutic approach to work with and what is your needs and focus of your therapy.

When you come to online therapy, I expect you as a client to make sure that you’re in a room where you can close the door, must have some privacy while you’re in the therapy session with me, have their camera positioned to see their face and have lights in the room.

I will take all steps to safeguard your privacy, I work in a private space and I have a private connection. We will be using the Zoom platform for the next session. Zoom is a simple, secure way for you to hold an online consultation with your provider from anywhere. It's encrypted, so your patient health data is secure.

In the eventuality of the internet signal is too low for the video call, I will call on WhatsApp.

I can help you to make informed choices about whom to tell and how to bring the topic up and help you to process your feelings about that person’s response afterwards. Talking about and exploring your experiences will help you get a better understanding of what is happening and the reasons.
