About me and my therapy practice
I have over 22 years experience as a BACP Accredited counsellor, 15 years as a supervisor and trainer of therapists. I specialise in working with couples, men's issues and short term work privately & with organisations. It is inspiring to see the positive changes people make through counselling. Initially we work together to understand your situation and work out what's best for you. Then I use 4 principles to guide the work:
1. Being non-judgemental - The counselling space is somewhere you can talk about what truly troubles you, without being judged. Our task together is to find a healing response to what you find most difficult in your life.
2. Recognising your many dimensions - While you may well feel stuck at this moment in your life, in fact, one of our aims together will be to help you rediscover some of your own resourcefulness and wisdom.
3. Being open to learning - Through the counselling process people often become aware of being locked in particular ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. Counselling can move you towards new ways of seeing and thinking that embrace change.
4. Being creative and dynamic - If you want to be happier, you will need to make changes in your life. I can introduce you to a wide range of techniques to help you explore new feelings in & outside sessions.
Alongside these principles, I have specific trainings that underpin my work in the Person Centred approach, Gestalt, Solution Focused Brief Therapy & CBT.

About me and my therapy practice
I have many years experience of working as a supervisor of counsellors who work in a range of settings such as GP practices, the addiction field, the voluntary sector and in private practice. I completed a supervision training at the Bath Centre for Staff Team Development in 2002.
Increasingly I appreciate the richness which comes from the integration of different approaches within counselling. I therefore frequently work with practitioners from modalities other than Gestalt where we share common values and understandings of the human condition and the issues and difficulties which clients present with.
I have supervised the manager and counsellors in a local drug and alcohol residential treatment centre for the last 12 years, supporting them with their clients in the organisation over this time.
My other specialism is the Supervision of students, having trained originally as a teacher and worked managing and teaching Counselling Training for 20 years. A Gestalt approach works particularly well in groups where a creative approach brings dynamism and energy to the process. This fits with Shohet’s 7 eyed supervisor model which emphasises process above content.Creative methods like two-chair work help supervisees to understand their clients more fully and deepen their understanding of the counselling process. It stimulates thinking, highlighting emotions and attitudes, helping at difficult times in the counselling process.
At the centre of the work is the Supervisory relationship. It is here that the nurture, replenishment and ‘magic’ of supervision occurs.
