About me and my therapy practice

Well done for taking the first step to accessing support and alleviating some of the distress you are feeling. This is often the hardest step and the most daunting one but I hope that reading my profile encourages you to take the next step and begin your therapeutic journey.

I am experienced in helping adults and young people to overcome anxiety, build self- esteem and confidence, fight depression and achieve healthy relationships.

I specialise in working with people who experience intense and overwhelming emotions that cause them sometimes extreme distress in their everyday lives. I have helped people to understand and manage these intense feelings so that they can build a life that feels calmer and easier to handle.

As an experienced integrative therapist, I am skilled in providing person centred therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, attachment based therapy and Dialectical behaviour therapy. This integrative approach enables me to be responsive to your needs and tailor the therapy to suit your specific concern.

I have worked with people suffering from complex and enduring mental health and wellbeing issues and I am therefore well practised in a range of interventions to facilitate change where there is distress.

I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I have extensive experience working in education, welfare to work and in charitable organisations. I have also worked in a forensic setting with clients with very complex and multifaceted issues.

Qualifications: BSc Degree- Counselling Psychology, PG cert Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, PG Dip Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy MSc degree- Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Recent Training Courses: Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Applied Suicide Intervention skills Training, Working with Obsessive compulsive disorder, Domestic Violence training: working with perpetrators, Anger management: Working with ex offenders.

Practice description

All therapy is provided within an empathic and non judgemental environment to support you to gain an increased understanding and awareness of yourself and to help you work towards realising and achieving your goals.

*please note that I charge £80 a session for DBT informed sessions.

My first session

Before starting regular sessions, it is important to have an assessment session to see how we feel about working together.

We will also agree a contract of working which outlines what you can expect from me as your counsellor, and outlining confidentiality, data protection etc.

If we decide to go ahead after the initial assessment session, we will discuss the frequency of your sessions and book in your next appointment.

About me and my therapy practice

I am experienced in providing supervision to staff, students undertaking counselling and psychotherapy courses and qualified counsellors.

About my way of working:

I value and understand the importance of supporting the development of autonomy in practice and I encourage open and honest dialogue with my supervisees to facilitate this.

An integral part of my work is supporting people to recognise and affirm their successes rather than only focussing on the things they feel did not go so well with their clients.

I encourage people to challenge themselves and reflect on how their personal experience, personality and unconscious bias impact the therapeutic alliance.

I am genuine and congruent during supervision and do not promote myself as "the expert" nor the "manager". I think this allows supervisees to develop confidence in their practice and to feel safe to talk about concerns or difficulties.
