About me and my therapy practice
I'm a fully trained Integrative counsellor, which means I draw on several approaches and select from them to best suit your issue and character. I am always keen to learn more about how counselling can work . Beyond my core qualifications , other areas that inform my approach include studies on: how we are conscious of our own existence; how far we feel separated from or connected to others; what we take from and give to our environments; how we have evolved.
I am also a qualified EMDR practitioner. EMDR is recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence as a means of processing distressing events from the past which are impacting on our experiences in the present. I am particularly interested in working with Attachment Informed EMDR, which invites us to work with formative developmental experiences. EMDR sessions are charged at £60/hr.
Outside of private practice, I have worked with adolescents for over 20 years, and greatly cherish the challenge, energy and creativity of young people. A key part of my past work has been to help care-leavers and young homeless people transition to successful independent living, and I continue to enjoy working with adolescents in my current practice.
My early years as a counsellor were spent within the hospice movement, working with bereaved clients and clients with life-changing illness.
Practice description
I'm an Accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and abide by their ethical code, including a firm faith that successful therapy lies in trusting to people's autonomy. This means I work in a non-directive way, offering a reflective space for clients to explore their own, unique experiences of life.
