About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Lucy and I am currently offering both online and in person therapy to individual adults.
There are many different reasons for considering counselling such as a current stressful work environment, difficult relationship, a recent or past loss, disappointment or trauma. You may not fully know your reason for seeking counselling but feel that talking with someone may help. My experience with individuals has shown that counselling has been beneficial to them.
I believe the quality of the counselling relationship we create is the most valuable aspect of therapy. This involves an authentic and confidential space where you can feel heard, understood and safe to explore your thoughts, feelings and experience. The process of reflection, within the context of a trusting relationship, can help you to become more aware of your experience, gain understanding of yourself and your relationships and this can facilitate change and help you to move forward.
I use an integrative approach which means that I have been trained in, and can use, several different counselling approaches to tailor to your unique circumstances and needs. At times it can be helpful to explore your past, at other times it is helpful to explore current feelings; sometimes it can be helpful to draw connections between the past and the present. Some of the approaches I use may include person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).
My aim is to be open, fair and to give everyone an equal service, recognising and valuing different needs. I work to the BACP and ACC Ethical Frameworks for counselling. I am an Registered Accredited Member of BACP and ACC for face to face counselling and a qualified online therapist with ACTO.
I aim to respond to emails within one working day.
Practice description
I have worked as a counsellor and client assessor since 2013 with a diverse range of clients in many different settings including mental health services, substance misuse projects, mental health charities and in private practice.
In 2018 I established a private practice in City of London, EC1 where I offered in person counselling. In March 2020 I started offering online counselling via Zoom and telephone. I now offer a mixture of both online and in person counselling.
I am registered as an approved practitioner with AXA Healthcare, Care first and Nuffield Health private healthcare providers.
During I was affiliated with the NHS Covid-19 Staff Counselling Service offering 6 free counselling sessions for NHS staff working in hospital settings and paramedics who were impacted by working in COVID-19 situations.
My first session
I offer an initial 15 minute telephone consultation prior to a first appointment. This is an opportunity to ask preliminary questions and for us each to gain a sense of whether I may be the right counsellor for you.
The first appointment (or assessment) differs from subsequent counselling sessions in that I tend to be more active in asking questions. Typically, I might ask you to talk about your reason or reasons for considering counselling, and your reasons for seeking counselling at this particular time.
You may want to know more about the counselling process, how many sessions to consider booking, and what may be important for you to explore in your sessions. At this point you may not know what you hope to gain from your sessions and this may become clearer as work together continues.
I believe an authentic counselling relationship is the most valuable aspect of therapy and on this basis believe it's important for you to find the right counsellor. Our initial telephone call and first appointment is a chance for us both to get a sense of whether I may be the right counsellor for you.
