About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes we can get very stuck or lost in life and end up unsure how to proceed. On these occasions it can be beneficial to seek out a caring but neutral professional; someone who is not in our life in any other ways, but who can be present with consistency to support us, to talk things through with, and to enable us to understand ourselves better.
Sometimes also we can get miserably trapped by anxiety or low mood or can struggle with self-doubt and experience difficulties in our relationships which feel insurmountable. Turning to a counsellor at these times can make us feel that we are actively doing something to help ourselves. We gain some structure and a sense of control back by teaming up with someone trustworthy who can accompany us on the road to a greater sense of well-being.
I treat everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion and will work hard to adapt what I offer to meet a person's unique and specific needs.
I have turned to counselling for myself on several occasions to deal with life difficulties and have always benefited from the experience. It is a hugely positive step to reach out to get support for your mental health, and I always feel humbled and delighted in equal measure to be able to accompany someone in that venture.
I am a senior accredited counsellor in the UK with at least 23 years of professional therapy work experience. I trained in the person-centred approach back in 2000 and I have worked since then in voluntary settings, the University sector and also privately.
In my private work, I am currently offering therapy online only. I have experience in helping clients with various difficulties, not limited to, but including stress and anxiety, low mood and depression, procrastination and motivation, relationship issues, self esteem/confidence, bereavement and work/career difficulties.
Practice description
I am happy to work in a longer term more open-ended way, or alternatively, in a brief way offering a contract for a few sessions only. In our free introductory session, we can explore if my particular way of working might suit you and meet your needs, and we can decide how we want to proceed. All sessions are currently being conducted online (on Zoom) and I can offer sessions weekday early mornings or evenings and also on Saturdays.
My first session
The first session we have together will be shorter than the usual 50 minutes but it is free. It is an introduction for us, with me getting to hear more about the issues you are bringing and what you want to achieve/change in your life, and you hearing more about the way I work. We can then decide whether it feels mutually useful to embark on work together, and if so, we would agree next steps.
