About me and my therapy practice
Please contact me for an initial exploratory chat with no obligation and no cost. If this feels positive for both of us then I am happy to meet for 1 hour online to continue this exploration with no charge.
My supervision practice is integrative firmly rooted in humanistic theory and values. I integrate notions and techniques from other supervision methods, with care, to tailor my approach to meet specific practitioner supervisory needs.
The principles that guide me are:
1. Trust. I trust the intention of each supervisee to be a responsible and ethical practitioner endeavouring to do their best.
2. Respect. I enable the counsellor to develop their own personal philosophy and approach, rather than teaching or imposing my way or a specific theory.
3. Personal integrity & autonomy. I avoid imposing my own practice onto the supervisee, whilst not withholding knowledge and experience. I support a supervisee’s struggles to find their own answer and encourage their development of personal integrity.
4. Relationship quality & client safety. I am convinced the supervisory relationship constitutes the central component of good supervision. I focus on the needs of the counsellor and the quality of the supervisory relationship. I endeavour from the start to develop a warm and as egalitarian a relationship as possible, enabling the counsellor to trust me with a wide range of concerns, to ensure clients’ welfare is best served.
5. Self awareness. I am keenly aware of the primary importance of my self awareness.
6. Expectations, contracting & review. I know the importance of encouraging supervisees to state their hopes, aims and expectations of supervision. I contract clearly in supervision, aiming for it to be as egalitarian as possible to encourage shared responsibility for the supervision process and relationship, its success and any potential problems.
