About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes in our lives we are faced with things that can make us feel unhappy, hurt, angry, worried, confused or unable to cope. These might include relationship or family problems, anxiety and depression, childhood experiences, illness, trauma, college or work problems, the loss of someone or something significant to you, questions about life or getting older, or any other issues.
Counselling or psychotherapy offers an opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings about whatever is troubling you, with someone who will not judge you or give advice, but will endeavour to offer a safe and accepting relationship in which to explore your difficulties and how you are currently trying to deal with them.
Therapy aims to help you gain a better understanding of yourself, address your experiences and responses and make choices and changes that feel right for you. It is important that you choose a therapist you feel comfortable with, as research indicates that the therapeutic relationship is a major factor in facilitating change.
I am a BACP Registered and Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist, qualified to master's level, and am also an ACAT Accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapist and a qualified EMDR practitioner (although I do not offer EMDR online).
I work from an integrative perspective and view the therapeutic relationship as paramount, offering a professional and ethical relationship to all my clients and adjusting my therapy approach to suit their individual needs. I have over 20 years' experience in both NHS mental health services and private practice, working with adult clients over a wide range of issues. I am also a qualified general nurse and worked for many years in hospital and GP settings.
I am a recognised therapist with several private health insurance companies and EAPs.
Practice description
I work with individuals over the age of 18 and all sessions are now delivered online, usually via WhatsApp, FaceTime or other platform, depending on client preference. I do not offer telephone counselling. All sessions, including initial assessments, last for 1 hour.
My first session
Prior to your first session I will send you some information about the way that I work, how I handle your data and the terms and conditions under which I offer therapy.
Our initial meeting offers an opportunity for us to talk about your concerns, understand some of the background to your difficulties, what you hope to gain from therapy and to see if we both feel we can work together.
At the end of this, you might like to go away and have a think about things or speak with another therapist, and there is no obligation to arrange another session. However, if you would like to meet again we will look at arranging a suitable appointment.
