About me and my therapy practice
Therapy offers a unique opportunity to talk things through in a space that is all about you. Whatever brings you to counselling, I will help you to explore your thoughts and feelings, and locate your own solutions to the problems you are facing.
I offer a professional, confidential, non-judgemental service. Contact me today to arrange a free, no-obligation phone consultation!
Some of the difficulties that I can help with include:
- Sense of self (e.g. low confidence, self-esteem, sense of identity including identity conflict)
- Addressing guilt and shame
- Relationship difficulties (with partners, friends, or others)
- Life change or loss e.g. career change, bereavement or relationship break-up
- Emotional distress (including mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and panic)
- Facing a difficult decision or transition
- Search for meaning or purpose
Practice description
I recognise it’s a big step accessing counselling, particularly if you have never seen a therapist before. I offer a safe place to explore difficult feelings, thoughts, or experiences that you might be facing.
I offer both short and long-term counselling in person in a warm, cosy office in my back garden in Edgware. I also see clients online via Zoom. As well as private referrals, I am registered with AXA Health insurance (provider number DW03840).
There are a variety of approaches to counselling: as an Integrative counsellor, I bring together elements of different therapies in my counselling toolkit. Each client is unique, and I believe the approach needs to be tailored to your specific needs and goals.
I have a background in equalities work and mental health services. I also have several years’ experience in working with various client groups, including people of trans and non-binary experience, lesbian, gay and bisexual people, people in non-monogamous relationships, people with disabilities, and people living with HIV and other long-term conditions.
Following my qualification, I gained the experience and expertise to be recognised as a BACP Accredited Counsellor – this means that my practice has been deemed by the BACP to meet their “higher standard as a competent, ethical and independent practitioner”.
I am also a Pink Therapy Accredited Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversities Therapist, which recognises that I have met their standards in terms of specialist knowledge, experience, and reflective practice in order to provide a “truly welcoming, inclusive approach” to diverse client groups.
My first session
Research evidence suggests that a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship is essential to effective therapy – therefore I can offer a free half-hour telephone consultation, for you to decide whether you would like to meet with me – just let me know when you’re available.
If we agree to meet, I'll offer an initial assessment appointment - this is an opportunity to explore what is bringing you to therapy in more depth.
If you or I feel that you would be better supported by another counsellor or service, I can provide you with information about other options.
I encourage you to ask questions about the counselling process and I will do my best to answer these transparently. I tend to have regular reviews/check-ins every few sessions to find out how the therapy is going for you.
