About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Kathryn. I am an accredited integrative counsellor, offering a warm, non-judgemental experience of therapy. I aim to be very approachable and able to create a safe environment for you to tackle the issues that bring you to therapy. If this is the first time you have looked for counselling, I appreciate how anxious you might be so I will do all I can to help you feel at ease..
My work often comes from a major health insurer and other employee assistance programmes (EAPs), with clients consisting mainly of adults and young people. The majority of my work is now over Zoom for which I undertood specific training as there are some considerations, especially around safeguarding which need to be made. Some clients enjoy the flexibility of alternating between face-to-face and online sessions. Appointments are usually weekly but it may be that later on in your therapy, we can agree a fortnightly slot, subject to availability.
I invite you to contact me to discuss your needs. It’s really important that you feel comfortable talking to me and also that I am able to support you within the limits of my competencies. For this reason, I offer either a phone/zoom/face-to-face session free of charge and ask you to take time to reflect before making your decision.
My first session
Clients come to therapy with different ideas of how they would like it to be structured. When we have our initial discussion, I ask what you hope to get out of counselling so that there is at least one goal.
In the first session, I would gather your biographical information and sometimes a timeline is a useful way to get things going. I am a Certified Trauma-Informed therapist so I am always mindful of how clients might experience bringing up difficult feelings from the past and we can work together on how to manage these safely.
