About me and my therapy practice
I originally trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy and have a Post-graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy. I am BACP accredited. I recently completed an advanced course in Rational-Emotive & Cognitive Behaviour Therapy at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York.
In every psychotherapeutic setting, “the relationship” between client and therapist is of paramount importance and central to treatment outcome. Whilst theory is vital to training, the quality of the human encounter between therapist and client is of greater significance.
In recent years, the stigma of mental illness has reduced significantly, medication has been refined and therapy has become acceptable. Depression and anxiety are now seen as serious conditions that can be treated rather than discounted as character flaws. With this in mind, I treat my clients with warmth, respect, deep understanding and where appropriate, a sense of humour.
I have been in private practice since 2000 and have drawn upon the wisdom and insights of the many theorists that I have studied. I feel privileged to have worked in a profession about which I am passionate and I am humbled to have made a difference to the many patients that have sought my help over the years.
