The number of sessions may vary from a few to a more long-term approach depending on the presenting problem and need. There can be some flexibility as to different times each week if your working hours vary although generally it is preferred to have a fixed weekly time of 50 minutes.
About me and my therapy practice
I have worked as a therapist for over 20 years in the NHS, Private Practice and with the Westminster Pastoral Foundation. I have also worked in Universities in London. Apart from being accredited with the BACP I have a Masters degree and a PhD. My approach as a psychotherapist is psychodynamic, that is, I feel it is important that my clients reflect on their feelings thoughts and actions in order to have a greater understanding of themselves and how others relate to them. It also entails they gain an understanding of the influence of the past on their past and present behaviour and how to address this. The ultimate aim is to be able to move forward in their lives.
I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy which focuses on challenging and changing distorted thoughts beliefs and attitudes.
