About me and my therapy practice
I have been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist for 12 years now. I am committed to providing counselling and psychotherapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment. I work with individual adults on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, with the aim of enabling you to overcome any difficulties you might be experiencing.
My training
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with full accredited membership status with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have completed a four year postgraduate diploma in transpersonal integrative counselling and psychotherapy at the Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy Education in London. This training incorporated the four main approaches in psychotherapy, namely psychodynamic, humanistic, existential and transpersonal.
I have also completed a Certificate in Person-Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression as part of my role as an NHS counsellor. This training combines a person-centred and emotion-focused approach. The aim of this therapy is to explore any blocked or suppressed emotions which may be outside of our conscious awareness. This therapy is designed to alleviate the symptoms of depression, as suppressing our emotions can be a contributing factor to our experience of depression.
Practice description
My work experience
I have spent 7 years working as a counsellor in an NHS hospital setting. I have also worked as a counsellor at an aftercare service for people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction for approximately 2 years as well as working in private practice.
My areas of interest
As an NHS counsellor and a private practitioner, I have worked with a broad range of difficulties. These include amongst others, depression and anxiety, codependency and relationship difficulties, work-related issues including stress and bullying, bereavement and loss, perimenopause difficulties and neurodiversity issues, including autism and ADHD presentations.
I have a particular interest in working with co-dependency which I have worked with for many years. As part of my work with co-dependency, I explore the relationship dynamics occurring in both romantic, social and family relationships including the connection between co-dependency and narcissism and how this manifests. It is crucial to firstly develop more awareness of the relationship dynamics which may be occurring in our lives before changes can be made. With knowledge comes power and the ability to make new choices for ourselves.
I also have an interest in working with life transitions, including the perimenopause which can be a particularly difficult time for many women both physically and mentally. I can offer emotional support to help you through this journey of change and help you to feel empowered through this process when you may be feelng quite vulnerable.
My first session
In our first session together, this will be a chance for us to get to know each other and find out whether I am the right therapist for you. We will have an initial consultation to find out exactly what you are looking for in your therapy and whether I am the best therapist to meet your needs.
