About me and my therapy practice
I am a senior accredited counsellor with many years' experience of delivering counselling both in private practice, the NHS and the voluntary sector.
I work with people encountering many different forms of distress: loss, low mood, anxiety, bereavement, relationship difficulties. I also work with existential uncertainties and questions of personal identity that can appear, particularly as we move through different stages of life. It can be natural to understand distress in terms of such categories and if you wish I can work with you in a problem specific way, offering you care and support in what are often very painful circumstances.
As a psychodynamic and transpersonal counsellor (with a Jungian orientation) I can also reflect with you on the whole of what you bring to counselling, so that what we explore is not only the problem that you bring but greater self-understanding. You may come with low mood but your low mood is unique to you; who are you, what might be the seed bed of such feelings; is there disconnection between how you outwardly present yourself and what you are feeling inwardly, and how might this be serving you?
Psychodynamic therapy involves a gradual approach that helps you to listen to yourself at depth. It is a transformative experience that enables you to give expression to what is yet to be discovered within yourself, and, ideally, to recover a sense of compassion and hope.
Practice description
My practice consists of weekly face to face sessions delivered from my address in West Oxford, one mile from the centre of Oxford. Alternatively I offer online sessions.
My first session
If you wish to book a first session please contact me by email. The first session is used both to give you a sense of what working with me might be like and also to help me to decide whether I feel I can be of help to you. This session is chargeable at my normal rate. If we decide to continue, we then look at the number of sessions we might undertake (a set number with a review, or open ended work) and we agree upon a regular weekly time for the sessions. Sessions are 50 minutes in length.
