About me and my therapy practice
I am an Accredited BACP Counsellor and I work with clients using an integrated approach. I worked using predominantly Person-Centred therapy. PC gave me a good grounding in how to work effectively using Rogers six core conditions.
I have adapted my approach over time to meet my clients demands and after completing further training I now work using an Integrative Approach, using Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Neuro Linguistic Programming and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming technique. by working integrative it allows me to use different tools and techniques from each of the different modalities to fit the needs of each client.
I work using the six core conditions and create a good therapeutic relationship with my clients, this structure underpins all my work and represents the values of my business.
I find CBT tools particularly useful in terms of managing anxiety and stress. If using CBT I tend to give clients homework to help them embed the skills needed.
NLP techniques are simple to explain, clients enjoy working with it and it enables fast and lasting change work and it’s easy to blend with PC and CBT. NLP tools (timeline, perceptual positions) allow “content free” change work. This is useful for clients who have experienced trauma and prefer not to talk about it.
EMDR is a great for working with range of issues such as, PTSD, trauma, grief, OCD, depression, pain and anxiety. Sessions for EMDR are usually 90 minutes long.
I enjoy working in an integrative approach and it makes my work interesting. I like learning new techniques and find that there is a wide range of additional skills I can explore. I like that I have a toolbox of techniques and a range of options. My way of working upholds the ethical framework by giving clients flexibility of choice and autonomy in our work together. I review what’s working and what’s not and highlight to the client the progress they have made.
Practice description
The room from which I work from in the Coach House in Rhydding Park is fully accessible, there is a lift to the first floor and accessible toilet facilities.
I tend to work in the Coach House at quieter times so that clients are given as much privacy as possible and a quiet space to think.
When booking a session clients receive a an appointment via email and first appointment instructions, for example where to park etc.
I ask that each session is paid for 24 hours in advance via bank transfer, payment details are supplied on each invoice sent.
Sessions last for one hour. For EMDR sessions these can be 90 minute sessions and the rate charged reflects the additional time required.
I have nearly 15 years experience working as a counsellor both in private practice and for charities. I have a wide range of experience working with many clients with different needs. In recent years I have also worked as a Supported Therapist working alongside Greater Manchester ICB. I work with clients who have mental illness and I work with them at home and in the community helping them to build coping skills and improve their self confidence.
I work also from my office at home. I work online and on the phone with clients from a private and confidently space at home. Working from home gives me great flexibility in terms of times I can work with clients.
I do occasionally work with counselling clients from their own homes. Session prices may vary due to travel times and distance for fuel. Costs would be agreed before any sessions are booked.
