About me and my therapy practice
Coming to therapy, especially for the first time, may feel daunting but it is an investment in your future wellbeing. Whether you need support with a current or a longer-term issue that is affecting your life, you have made a brave decision. After taking the first step by deciding to seek help, the next step is choosing the right therapist for you.
Just as we all experience 'issues' in our own way, therapists are all different too. I am particularly experienced in working with couples who are experiencing problems in their relationship and individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-worth, lack of purpose, childhood experiences/trauma, abuse and many types of loss.
Whilst I will listen empathically to what matters to you in a safe, confidential and non-judgmental way, I will also offer appropriate challenges to help you gain insight and clarity and offer practical strategies to help you cope and reduce the impact of your concerns.
Having trained in many different approaches over the years - Person Centred Approach, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Anlysis, Solution Focused, Focus Orientated, Cinical Assessment and Management of Suicidality and Couples Counselling - and regularly engage in continual professional development, I work pluralistically, drawing from a number of different therapeutic approaches to meet your needs. Where appropriate, I will offer therapeutic theory in a form that is relevant to you to help you gain understanding and awareness.
Together we will work towards improving your well-being, in a manner and pace to suit you, and empower you to gain different perspectives and make the changes you want in your life and in your relationships with others. It is your journey and will be unique. I will work alongside you to support you and help you get to where you want to be.
If this sounds right for you, please get in touch.
Practice description
I offer therapy on a face-to-face basis locally and via Zoom both locally and nationwide. It is possible to have a combination of both if it suits your preferences and/or commitments. We do not have to have the same time every week but can do so if that suits you.
When entering therapy, it is important to commit to sessions on a regular basis. Initially, weekly sessions are beneficial but fortnightly sessions work well too if you require more time to process what we have explored or home/work life/finances restrict weekly sessions. Some clients eventually move on to monthly sessions if it is long-term therapy that is required. It really is whatever works for you.
I offer both daytime and evening sessions Monday to Friday.
My first session
Following an enquiry, we will have a brief initial telephone chat to identify what you would like help with and that I feel able to do so. I will also explain costs and what happens next. Prior to the first session you will several administrative forms via email that you will be required to read and consent to and to complete a Contact Form. This saves valuable time during the first session and means that we can spend more time talking about what is important to you.
During the first session we complete a standardised questionnaire to assess your current level of anxiety and low mood, assess any risk factors and gain a general overview of what is concerning you, what you would like to achieve from therapy and your preferred style of working together. We will review this together regularly.
If you feel comfortable working with me going forward, we can then book another session. There is no obligation for the number of sessions you have. It depends when you feel you have got what you wanted from therapy. Sessions can be paid for on a session by session basis or pre-paid for a block of six sessions when a small discount is applied.
