About me and my therapy practice
Often the catalyst for seeking good quality counselling or psychotherapy is the feeling of being lost or stuck. Thoughts and feelings can intrude on day-to-day experience rendering us unable to live our lives in a fulfilling way. We may feel as if we no longer recognise ourselves as the person we ‘used to be’.
I am a highly experienced counsellor and therapist with over 20 years of experience working with a range of people on a range of issues and I can help. Some of the issues that I have successfully worked with are anxiety, depression, stress, identity problems, self-esteem issues, self-assertion, relationship issues, self-destructive behaviour, and bereavement.
I am a psychodynamic counsellor and therapist which means that I will think about your whole story as well as the things that are currently affecting your day-to-day life. Patterns can develop throughout our lives that have been established in response to situations from our past which we carry into the present.
Together we will look at the issues that are affecting your life. Within the trusting relationship that we build, we will think about your feelings in a way that helps you to make more sense of your experience. I am completely committed to supporting you to navigate your difficulties, using my years of knowledge and experience, and my calm and unhurried approach.
I offer both medium-term counselling and long-term psychotherapy. Sometimes it’s hard to know which is the best fit for you and this is something that we can discuss in our initial appointment.
I offer a bespoke service to students as I know that affordability for good quality counselling can be an issue. I offer 20 sessions for £45 per session. I have over ten years of experience working in a student counselling service.
I am an accredited member of the BACP and work within their ethical framework. I am a qualified counselling supervisor and I hold an MSc in Counselling Studies.
Practice description
I run my private practice from a comfortable room in the West End of Edinburgh, where you will feel safe and secure and where we will be free from interruption.
My therapy room is on the second floor; if you have restricted mobility, please let me know and we can discuss the option of telephone counselling.
My therapy room is within walking distance of public transport links.
My first session
If you think I can help, the first step is to get in touch. Please provide a brief summary of why you're looking for counselling or psychotherapy.
I will get back to you as soon as possible to arrange a free 20 minute telephone conversation.
If we decide to work together, we will arrange a regular time and day to meet for weekly sessions. This will be your allocated time-slot every week.
At that stage I will ask you to fill in your contact details and an emergency contact, and I will send some additional important information relating to procedures.
I look forward to hearing from you.
(NB unfortunately I am contractually unable to work with anyone who is currently a matriculated student at Edinburgh University)
