About me and my therapy practice

Having begun counselling  40 years ago, it has been a constant thread through a career that has included mental health social work, health promotion, adult education and training, counselling in G.P. practice and private practice.

I will work with whatever problems, issues or blocks that you bring to counselling. If you are troubled by behaviours, such as addictions, or physiological symptoms, such as anxiety or panic attacks, then we may do some focused work on these to assist you in gaining control over them.

Talking about your current problems may lead us to make links with unresolved events from the past. Exploring these past events, such as abuse, trauma, family deaths, can result in resolving and healing them, so that they can be laid to rest. Having undergone training in working with trauma, I am even more aware of how our bodies hold vital information about our past experiences. Giving attention to our embodied experience in the present can facilitate changing stuck and often unhelpful patterns.

Invariably what happens between us in the therapy room is a reflection of how you are in your life. We can use this information to help shed light on how you can make changes in your relationship with others.

Because everyone is different I tailor my approach accordingly. Thus, I may use cognitive-behavioural methods, gestalt techniques, assertiveness training, focusing - and inspiration in the moment! Listening to my intuition is a hallmark of my practice.

I have named my counselling, supervision and healing practice Conversations From The Heart because that is what I do!
