About me and my therapy practice
My supervision style is integrative underpinned by Roger's person centred values. I work sensitively and creatively , very much with what I feel is present in the room. My aim is to provide a safe and confidential space for the supervisees to talk openly about their clients. I work from BACP Ethical Framework. I will take brief notes focusing on the facts, feelings and any reflections I may have whilst listening to the client work. I may suggest psychological interventions and goals for your counselling practice and I provide a psycho - educational component to my supervision. I may/will take a thumb print of the client counselling work to my own supervisor but all your work will remain confidential unless the supervisee disclosed an intent from a client to harm themselves.
Practice description
I provide monthly supervision following the BACP Ethical Framework of One & a half hours of supervision. This can be face to face, on line and telephone supervision. I am available between sessions particularly if the supervisee has concerns about a client who has suicidal ideation with a plan and has had to disclose to their GP or Adult Health Crisis Team. I can log the date and the issues surrounding the client in the supervisee's notes.
My first session
During the first supervision session I like to establish the supervisory relationship by finding out what led the supervisee into counselling, are they just qualified or an experienced counsellors. What expectations do they have relating to supervision? I would like to know who they work for or are they self employed and their case load to assess whether the supervisee is having the recommended supervision hours. I am interested to learn how the supervisee manages their own self care and reserve the right to recommend personal therapy. I like the supervisees to identify the client with a first name or number, their age and the issues they bring. How many hours they have contracted with the client for. My expectations are that the supervisee starts the supervision session on time and to come prepared for supervision and for us to have regular reviews of how the supervision process is going.
