About me and my therapy practice
My psychotherapy training was integrative which means that I draw on a variety of approaches to inform my practice including Attachment theory, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance Commitment therapy). Sometimes clients like to work creatively using art, imagery or visualisation which I have trained to facilitate. However, it is the relationship between us that provides the opportunity for healing and growth, and you have just taken a very courageous first step in recognising the importance of your emotional wellbeing and prioritising it. I aim to provide a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space for you to bring whatever you need to for as long as you need to and will be committed to helping you understand why you feel the way you do as well as enabling you manage your circumstances. The aim of therapy is to empower you to live a more fulfilling life. Sometimes this means change which can be challenging and having someone alongside you in that process as you move forwards means you are not doing that alone.
Practice description
I am a BACP Senior Accredited and UKRC registered therapist and supervisor. I qualified as a psychotherapist 25 years ago and am the Director of Crossways Counselling Service – a registered charity in Haslemere- as well as working in private practice as a counsellor of individuals and couples and as a clinical supervisor of individuals and groups. I worked for the NHS for 12 years until recently as the Counselling and Bereavement Manager for Macmillan Midhurst as part of a multi-disciplinary medical team for patients living with a life limiting illness and their families and loved ones- supporting them from diagnosis onwards.
I work both face to face or online and am a certified counsellor with the Association for counselling and therapy online (ACTO) having completed an accredited training with that organisation. I have my own therapy room in Haslemere with Private parking.
My first session
The purpose of our first session together is to discover if I am the right therapist for you. In order to do that we will discuss together what you are hoping to gain from counselling, and the issues you would like to work on. If at the end of that session you would like to continue and I think I can help then we will decide how we are going to work together moving forward. Sessions are normally weekly on the same day and time and at the same place. I appreciate that sometimes there is an need for flexibility around work or other commitments. If you need time to think things over then of course that is absolutely fine. If I feel that what you are looking for is outside of my area of expertise I will discuss appropriate options and referrals with you.

About me and my therapy practice
I trained as a supervisor for both groups and Individuals in 2007. I work with psychotherapists, counsellors, health care professionals, social workers or indeed anyone wanting space to reflect on their life goals within the context of a supportive, ethical and developmental framework. I offer the appropriate balance of challenge, support and ethical accountability whether you are a trainee, newly qualified, working towards accreditation or an experienced practitioner. I also aim to provide a creative play space where it is safe to explore ideas, theories and ways of working. An opportunity to celebrate what has gone well as well as somewhere you can share what has been difficult and be supported to find a way forward. I see supervision as collaborative not directive and as in counselling it is the relationship between supervisor and supervisee that determines the quality of development that takes place. I maintain close contact with training organisations as a placement provider and am familiar with what is required in order to support trainees on their journey to qualification. I also work with counsellors seeking accreditation to enable them to prepare their application.

I trained as a clinical supervisor for groups and individuals in 2007 and have supported both trainees and qualified counsellors working towards accreditation as well as supervising experienced practitioners with their own supervision practice. As a placement provider I maintain close contact with training organisations and have had the pleasure of working with many trainees and newly qualified counsellors over the years.
My first session
As in counselling, the purpose of our first session together is to explore if I am the right person for you to work with. As in therapy, it is important that we both feel we can build a good relationship to underpin the work we do. Together we will look at what your hopes and expectations are, where you are in your journey as a counsellor or professional and what support you need. If you are happy to go ahead, and I think I can offer the supervision you require, we will discuss a working agreement. Usually this will be at a regular time each month but I appreciate that sometimes training or work commitments mean there is a need for flexibility.
