About me and my therapy practice
Since qualifying as a Person Centred therapist in 2009 I have gained extensive experience working with children, young people and adults in therapy. My background originally was in primary and secondary schools, GP practices and other community settings.
I currently work in private practice with those exploring their identity, gender and sexuality. I often work with individuals who have experienced trauma, including singular traumatic events, childhood abuse, religious trauma and bereavement. I am experienced in working with relationship and work related difficulties, problems with anger, and those experiencing emotional and psychological distress, as well as problems which can stem from trying to manage that distress.
I was a member of an independent advisory board, informing national policy and best practice for training and development for professionals working with sexual violence and assault. I was the co chair for the National Association for Trauma Specialists, affiliated to the University of Nottingham, where I received my MA in Trauma Studies in 2019.
I have recently completed my PhD thesis with the Open University, in partnership with Brunel University London and University of Oxford. My research explores mental health crisis, social and environmental factors impacting on trauma and the efficacy of mental health care in meeting service users needs.
Practice description
I want anyone who chooses to come see me to feel as comfortable as they possibly can. To help with this I aim to create a safe, inclusive and welcoming space. My therapy practice is trauma informed and LGBTQIA+ friendly.
Whatever you would like to explore in therapy I am open to working with you, within my competency and experience. I have knowledge and understanding of a wide range of issues and problems that may be affecting you and able to work in a time conscious, or long term way, depending on your needs and personal circumstances.
My first session
Once I receive your enquiry I will respond as soon as I can to let you know my availability.
If you prefer, we can have a brief conversation on the telephone or via email before booking the first appointment to clarify or answer any questions you might have.
I always offer an initial session. This first session I will look to get a better understanding of how I might help you. It's also an opportunity for you to decide if you feel I'm the right person to help you. There is no obligation to attend further sessions if you don't want to.
(All sessions are £50 for 50 minutes) .
