About me and my therapy practice
I am a compassionate therapist committed to supporting you through whatever life challenges you are currently facing.
My original training (2012) was in Person Centred Counselling, meaning that I fully trust in your ability to heal, grow, and change if provided with the right environment. While Humanistic and Person-Centred values are at the heart of all I do, my Counselling work is also informed by progressive theories in neuroscience and psychology. I am Polyvagal and Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed, I have a special interest in trauma (overwhelming experience) and how it impacts the brain, body, and nervous system.
I aim to create an environment for you to find safety within yourself, which are the first steps in moving towards change.
How Can I help?
Perhaps you have reached a point where you know things have to change?
Maybe you feel stuck in a cycle of repetitive and destructive relationship patterns?
You might be feeling as though you don't belong or fit in anywhere.
Maybe you are confused by your experience of life and find it difficult to understand why you behave and react the way you do.
You may have a sense that there is something ‘wrong’ with you but can’t pinpoint what that is.
You might feel stuck in a revolving door with support you are currently getting; maybe you consider NHS services don't understand or can't help you to move forward?
I would like to help you to feel safe enough to change.
It has been a privilege for me to help and support people from a variety of different backgrounds. I have worked in a Children and Families Centre, a Prison, and with Homeless individuals. I am experienced in working with a range of complex problems.
My qualifications include:
BSc (hons) Counselling (First Class)
Level 4 Diploma Therapeutic Counselling
Level 3 Cert Counselling Skills
Level 2 Counselling Concepts
Practice description
Regardless of what you bring to therapy you will not be judged. Therapy should provide you with a safe space where you are free to explore and process what you need to, so that you can begin to uncover internal resources and build resilience.
Research has shown that the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship that develops between Counsellor and Client, the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the clearest predictors of successful outcomes.
When you make initial contact with me, we can arrange a free 20-minute telephone conversation so that you can ask me any questions that you need to and see whether you feel Counselling with me is going to be right for you.
Some people only require a few sessions before they begin to feel clearer about their situation. For others it can take much longer to unravel and process their issues. I am happy to work with you on a short- or longer-term basis.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and a member of the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation.
I am also a qualified Daring Way™ facilitator, having trained with American researcher Brené Brown in 2015. More information about this work can be found here https://brenebrown.com/thedaringway/
