About me and my therapy practice
Therapy is a time to think, process and decompress in a safe, supportive and understanding environment. Therapy can benefit many; those who seek support in times of struggle, those who need help in processing their experiences; or for those who wish to further understand themselves, their thoughts, behaviour and relationships.
As a Child and Adult Counselling Psychotherapist I have extensive experience working with a variety of issues and presentations in short and long term therapy. I currently see clients in private practice and have also worked with Children and Adolescents for a number of years both in the community and in schools. I see young people for a variety of reasons including developmental and emotional complexities. I often meet and work with parents to aid the support of the young person's therapy.

Practice description
I work integratively as a therapist, combining elements of different types of therapies depending on the client's needs and to ensure the most effective approach chosen. I am analytical in my thinking and integrative in my approach. I adapt to the person as they are presented to me in the room and adjust the therapeutic approach depending on the needs of the client to ensure the time offered continues to be safe and effective. Therapy provides a empathetic and congruent space, facilitating an environment in which one feels safe to share their thoughts and feelings.
We will explore past and present experiences looking at how these experiences influence present-day behaviours and ways of thinking.
The length of the therapy depends on the individual, the reason they seek therapy and how ready they feel to commit to the time. An approximate time frame will be put in place at the beginning of therapy, based on initial understandings of what is sought, practicality, financial feasibility and effectiveness, all of which will determine frequency and length of the therapy process. This will be reviewed and discussed as the therapy progresses to assess how you respond to therapy, what you feel you need from the sessions (which may change overtime), and what is discovered during the process. I am respectful of the readiness of the client to move forward.
The therapy works at the pace of the client not the therapist which enables you to be of optimum mind set and open to new understandings and perspectives.

My first session
In the first session we discuss your reasons for seeking therapy; why it is sought at this time and your expectations and understandings of what therapy is about. We work towards unpicking the difficulties which are most prominent and in need of addressing. The first session is also about getting to experience the room, talking to a therapist and gauging how you feel being in theapy. First and foremost it is important that you feel safe and able to be open with your therapist, this can take time.
