About me and my therapy practice
I am a dedicated Counsellor/Psychotherapist/CBT practitioner, with a warm personality, easy to communicate with and highly qualified. I specialise in anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, loss issues (including retirement, redundancies, loss of pets, life-changing events), alongside many other issues.
My practice is in Whittlesey, Peterborough. I am BACP accredited, with over 20 years experience and hold a first class degree in Counselling and a post-grad diploma in CBT from Anglia Ruskin University. I have worked in both medical and clinical settings.
During my period of working with cancer patients, I became interested in the mind/body link. I recognised how influential our thought patterns are in relation to how we live our lives and the importance of exploring our worries rather than allowing them to build to crisis level. This has inspired me and been the driving force underpinning my work.
I aim to help people find meaning and fulfilment in their lives, rather than be controlled by negative beliefs and thought patterns. I believe life is a journey, during which time we are faced with many difficult challenges. This can often be overwhelming and we can feel very alone. Counselling provides us with the opportunity to feel supported whilst processing our difficulties, often leading to happier and more meaningful lives. It also offers tools and techniques to help manage life more effectively, to cope with the pressures of modern society and especially right now in the challenges we are all facing.
I use an integrative model, drawing on a number of different approaches to suit the needs of clients. I work in a collaborative way, encouraging clients to take an active role in the way we work. Having experienced counselling at different stages of my own journey I am mindful of how daunting this can be. If you can just take that first step and make contact with me, it could change your life.
Practice description
I endeavour to provide a safe, confidential and professional environment, where you feel able to explore your worries and concerns and make decisions in your own time. My room is light, airy and relaxing and easily accessible.
My first session
The first session offers you the opportunity to meet me in person and outline your expectations. I will listen to the concerns you have and what you are hoping to achieve from the counselling experience. I will outline how I work and how I may be of help. If I think I am not the right counsellor for you, I may suggest a referral to another professional. If you decide after this session that you do not wish to continue, you are under no obligation. Or you may want to have some time to think about what has been discussed, before you make your decision. What I can help with
