About me and my therapy practice

It’s okay to talk about feelings !

Counselling can ease the pressure, gently, a little at a time at a pace that is safe for you.

I work with adults and young people.

I offer a calm, confidential and safe therapeutic environment. In providing empathy, respect, and a non-judgmental approach in our work together, I aim to build a trusting relationship which will enable you to talk about whatever is on your mind.

Traumatic experiences can leave emotional scars which may fill you with anxiety, stress and sleepless nights, consuming your energy and leaving you struggling to cope with daily living, I will listen and support you to work through emotions that are difficult to bear as you find new ways to express yourself.

My work is with young people up to the age of 18 in school and in private practice.

Subscribing to the BACP professional code of ethics means respecting the competences for work with this age range so to add to the core competences I already held, I subsequently completed a Level 5 course last year specifically for Counselling Young People. I recognise the importance of enough theoretical knowledge with this age group and my approach in being able to monitor the young person's way of expressing their thoughts and feelings, and my own emotional state being a guide in providing a valuable and relatable experience for the young person.

My aim is to work collaboratively with the Young Person as they discover what is stopping them from living their best life and using a proactive approach, I sit beside them while they figure out what steps to take to make improvements in the quality of their mental and physical health.

With a warm empathic approach, I support both adults and young people to be freely in touch with experiencing the process of self enhancement and to have a positive experience of counselling.

Practice description

I work as a Person-Centred Counsellor and blend other modalities into the therapy, depending on what you want to achieve.

A Person-Centred Approach puts emphasis on the Counsellor listening in a way that lets you know you've been heard and that what you are saying, is of value. It is thoughtful and considered and because one approach will not suit everyone, by using different modalities I am able to tailor my responses to sensitively respond to your emotional state and inspire you to make connections with your beliefs and values to resolve your inner conflict.

I draw on different theories, the BACP ethical framework, self-awareness, and a range of skills to enable me to understand and respond to what is happening in the counselling session.

Whilst Counselling is a talking therapy, it can include opportunities to learn new strategies, including relaxation techniques and creative work to support your expressions in more fulfilling and powerful ways.

I will support you to understand, explore, challenge and cope with your emotions in the ways that you feel most comfortable with, so you are better equipped to manage your unique emotional journey through life.

My first session

I understand that coming to Counselling can be anxious making and that you may be nervous and worried about what’s going to happen.

If you are interested in having counselling, please email me, following this we will arrange to have a 15-minute chat over the phone. I can answer any questions you have and discuss how I practice; If you think you will be comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings and experiences with me, we can arrange an initial appointment.

• You will be invited to talk about the parts of your life you wish to make sense of and the parts of your personality you wish to develop.

• I will be honest with you about what you can expect from our time together; building trust and working within the BACP Ethical Framework are central to the professional therapeutic relationship.

• You can ask yourself if you believe we can work together to develop a trusting relationship.

• If you are satisfied and consent to Counselling, we can come to an agreement on what you would like to achieve.

Each Counselling session is different and individual for everyone, and you always have a choice in what you want to talk about and how many sessions you’d like. Most people begin with six and carry on further until they have reached their own comfortability about the issues they raised and explored in the therapy room.

A small number of concessions are available for adults at certain times and those in receipt of a pension, please contact me for current availability and fees.
