About me and my therapy practice
I have been working as a therapist since 1993 in West Lothian.
I am a senior accredited therapist with British Association for Counsellors And Psychotherapy. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, a BA (Hons) in Psychology, a MSc in Science and Medicinal Chemistry and an MA in Music
My background is in education, social care and the NHS.
I supervise other psychotherapists and counsellors in both the private and voluntary sectors and I have taught HNC Counselling as well as presenting at conferences and offering workshops.
Practice description
My clients fall into two main categories – and sometimes into both! Most of those referred to me by outside agencies have a problem that can be worked on over 6 to 8 sessions. The problem will not necessarily be completely “fixed” but my client will be well on the way to sorting it out and will know what remains to be done.
Many clients come to me not able to imagine they will ever be able to go back to work. Many of these clients are back at work – and wanting to be there – even before we have completed the 6 or so sessions.
Some clients do not have a problem that needs to be “fixed”. These clients have many problems which probably do not stop them functioning but which pull them down and make them unhappy. Often they put a face on for the world - no-one is aware how miserable and frightened they are. Sometimes they think they are going mad. Sometimes they do not believe life is worth living.
These clients need much more time and the security of knowing there is someone – me – in the background that can help work out what is going on. These clients may come for 6 months, a year or many years. When they feel it is ready to move on, we work together to make sure that leaving therapy is a good experience and then say our goodbyes.
My first session
During the first session, I will help you describe why you are wanting to try psychotherapy or counselling. At the end of this session, you and I will decide on a way forward.
Some people only want – and need – one session. It is always possible to get in touch again if you decide you want more sessions at a later date. Other people take much longer to feel happy talking about themselves. Some problems need more unravelling, too. The number of sessions you want – and need – will be discussed at the first session.

About me and my therapy practice
I offer a model of holistic supervision that is not modality based. In addition and because I believe that accreditation is a useful next step in the development of the experienced practitioner, I offer support and mentoring to a supervisee during the accreditation process.
I completed the supervision course at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy in 1999 and have worked with nurses, counsellors, psychotherapists and educationalists from a variety of backgrounds. I have had personal experience of a wide variety of supervision including person centred, transactional analysis, psychodynamic and spiritual accompaniment.
Practice description
